Dream Topping was great. Angel Delight (chocolate) was the usual Sunday treat though.
Oh, and I used to love 'scraping the bowl' after my Mum had made a Victoria Sponge cake mix. Christ, I'd kill for some right now.

Tinned peaches and cream on a Sunday evening (after salmon and cucumber sandwiches)
That's tomorrow's tea sorted. Although I am tempted by Salops suggestion above.

God, yes, that's it - that's EXACTLY how it was at Sunday tea-times, and that quote has taken me back DECADES! - er - quite a few years to home as a youngster! And the cucumber slices were always in vinegar, with raw onion slices that were WAFER-thin!

Christ, I'd kill for some right now. That's always the best part of ANY cake, Corny! (Well it always tastes better than any finished cakes I've ever made. )

Don't even mind fruit salad (if I make a trifle that's what I usually use in the base), although I agree about the 'cherries' in it - gawd knows what they are, but they're never cherries! Speaking of trifle, can we have a debate about whether or not there should be jelly in the base? I always put it in because when the trifle sponges are soaked in it + loads of sherry and it's set it's my favourite part of the trifle (although the custard's delish too). I bet 'purists' and pro chefs say there should be no jelly in trifle...... but I'll never agree. What do other folks think?

Never had that or Angel Delight at home, but I well remember our 'roped-in as cooks people' getting through mountains of the stuff anytime we took the Cubs to Kibblestone for a weekend. In fact I'd never had Angel Delight at all before then, but now it's one of the first things I ever think of about Kib - plus the campfires (and pockets full of firelighters - sssshhhhhh) - if I ever recall those days, which were great fun. I imagine it was a staple part of catering for Cub and Scout camps all over the country!

My lasting memory with camp fires and food was finding a long stick and putting one of those dough ball things on the end and trying not to lose it in the inferno. My track record with fires is well documented!!. 😂
