Sunderland, Hull
I know Villa are 2nd but Norwich, QPR, Wigan, Blackburn, Ipswich, etc, etc have all struggled
You would think with the massive parachute payments the Championship would be easy pickings?

The Championship is a crazy league. Anybody can beat anybody on any given day and that's not a cliche. So many games all rammed in, momentum swings. There is always one team who makes that late run for the playoffs. In a strange way, I'm looking forward to being back in it, should we go down(which looks nailed on, just trying to be a little positive )

Some do some don't. 19 of the 24 teams in the Championship have been in the Prem at some point.

There is a growing trend that relegation to the Championship can mean a fire sale of your playing squad. Some go because of exit clauses , others to cut the wage bill. You can start your campaign in the Championship with a totally different squad than the one you left the Premiership with. Look at Hull as a prime example ( accepting that they have shit owners ). Living in I went to Millwall v Hull earlier in the season and only 2 Hull players remained from the team that lost to us last season.

Take out the top 6 teams and you could throw a blanket over both the PL and Championship, all the same standard.

A Lot of teams that get relegated have panicked in the January window and saddle themselves with players who either want out or are on high wages.

If you keep most of your best players and sign a couple, keep everyone on board, aim to get back up straight away, then we have a huge advantage. If we only sell shaq and butland, bring in 2-3 players in midfield and a striker, we will walk that league.

There's no top six in the Championship, and with the target being making it to the premier league, it makes for a more of a competitive division!!!
In the championship, you NEED the right Manager, the right attitude, and the right team work to achieve something!!!
But I think the main reason is, just coming down from the Prem, your there to be shot at....teams want to beat you, they come with the desire to win and not just expect to win (like the "relegated" club do)....I think that's why so many ex-premier league clubs faulter in their first season down, they expect to bounce straight back up, and more often than not, they're in for a shock!!!

All of a sudden you have to change your mentality from doing enough to get 38 points to somehow managing to get 76 plus points for the season is going to be considered successful.

That sums it up pretty much It’s a division with no such thing as a bonus game totally different attitude going out to win a game rather than trying not to lose one

In previous years, when we got relegated to the championship, we came straight back up quite easily.
As someone said, a lot of teams see relegated premier league teams as a big day out for them and raise their game.
The championship is a lot harder than what it used to be.

The problem is the team will be stripped of its best players and has to rebuild. The transfer team have been looking at Prem players and have to look at a different type of player. Lambert is be gone by mid season next year when we are lingering near the relegation zone.
I wonder if Ryan will stay and be loyal to us. I am sure some other clubs will come in for him.

When, as in my life time we got relegated in 1977 returned in 1979 got relegated in 1985 and spent 23 years outside the top league, dont think this really counts as easily coming straight back up easily. Prior to that we were relegated in 1953 returning 10 years later in 1963 I am kind of struggling to find this we came back up quite easily unless you mean from Div 1 to the Championship but then promotion in 93 took 3 seasons and 2002 promotion took 5 seasons although 1927 took one season, so you are slightly misunderstanding or fucking very old if you remember 1927

There's a clue in the name... Generally the clubs who come back up are the ones who're either rich enough to invest heavily (Newcastle. Villa will do it this year after last year's slow start) or have a plan, prepare for relegation and are able to keep most of their squad together (Burnley). The clubs that plummet are the basket cases who have no plan, lots of wasters on big wages and implode financially.

Years ago a relegated team would keep most if not all of their best players, it's completely different now we for example would certainly lose Butland, Allen and Shaqiri along with the loan players and I wouldn't be surprised to see interest in Bauer, Bruno and Shawcross although his injury record may be a concern. If all or most of them do leave that is a massive rebuilding exercise or we would be left relying on Wimmer, Allen, Crouch and Diouf.

Losing mentality. If you're struggled for years in the premier league a sinking feeling sets in which is still around when you're in the championship.
Generally, if you've gone down that's partially because the club isn't run properly, which again is still around in the championship.
Muddled squads, not much quality (since the focus is on cutting costs)

Muddled squads, not much quality (since the focus is on cutting costs) I agree that some of the problems may be as much psychological as about players' ability and quality. Once you get into a losing streak it is often very hard to break out of it. You may play actually well in a game then lose to a freak goal or a late penalty - and the paranoia sets in. Bad form or lack of effort is excused as bad luck, or the feeling that nothing is ever going to go right for you, or all the officials have got it in for you. A relegated team with this sort of mindset will certainly struggle.

Its called momentum. Unless drastic measures are taken the problems will remain and continue to fester, usually worsened by the your best players fucking off elsewhere...

Losing your big players and all the luxuries if the premiership count for nothing. The dramatics and rolling round after a mere brush off will get you nothing. Get up from then and you get a crunching 50-50 that'll go right through some of these precious souls.
I think this is one of the toughest leagues in football

A shite team is a shite team in any division. We got totally outclassed by Brizzle earlier in the season and then beaten by Cov.
We have a dozen players in our squad that nobody would want and we will probably have to pay some of their wages to get rid of them on loan. The few bits of quality we have left in our squad will be sold. Which really leaves a whole team to be built from scratch and that will require a quality manager with a clue, in order for us to be able to compete and possibly avoid another relegation - It is a bleak future.
In a way it is better to be a yo-yo team, the likes of Newcastle would probably be able to keep most of their squad if they were relegated and they have a squad that would compete in the championship - Stoke, on the other hand, have an unbalanced squad lacking quality, pace, athleticism or character
