It's hard to believe but he's getting worse. Opinions eh, personally think he's the one player who's upped his game since Lambert arrived. Albeit from rock bottom. I like Erik but it's unbelievable how his crossing just never improves. You're lucky to get 2 good crosses a season. In fact, his only goal for us was a shit cross!

Absolute joke of a thread. Pieters is there to defend and recently he has been one of our top performers. The 6 players in front of him on the pitch are there to create the goals. He also put two great balls into the box yesterday but we didn't have any player with the ability to get in the right positions in the box.

Eric gives away too many needless fouls in dangerous areas, many of which have caused us to concede goals. Worst crosser of a ball I've seen at Stoke, and that includes Geoff Scott and Ben Petty!

Just compare his all round play to Bauer and see the difference. Not even in the same league, and MB has only been here a few weeks...
Its too easy to just say 'he is there to defend' and simply not true. At this level, all of your players need to be up to the standard. Centre halves need to play, fullbacks need to support the attack, hell - even keepers need to sweep!
Some of the 'fancy dans' with no heart are getting stick and rightly so, but the problem we have had for years with filling the gaps with sub-standard players is now coming home to roost. One of the reasons we are not good enough is because of players like Pieters, Fletcher, Cameron, Diouf etc. They can do a job but lack the quality to enhance the team and therefore make us better. It is a problem that we have never addressed.
On sat we just kept making sideways and backward passes until either Joe Allen or Shaq got the ball - then we expect them to do something magical to unlock Brightons defence. Shaq eventually managed it, but it was painful up till then.
There are plenty of players earning criticism and Pieters is most definitely in the firing line. Making a couple of blocks and getting the odd cross in to no-one does not excuse him from generally being a terrible footballer. Just imagine if we had another Bauer on the left...

Perhaps Staffy could do a Bauer-like job on the left?

Perhaps Staffy could do a Bauer-like job on the left? No idea Jimmy, but if he is no better than Pieters it begs the question why did we sign him?

If he's 'training' well, he may be worth a start in order to offer something different on the left, such as pace, crossing ability and a semblance of positional awareness.

Pieters has been bigging us up with 33 points to play for. He needs to smack one in the top corner against the foxes!
