Another change to the English game driven by the top 6 who are desperate to play less domestic game and that's what will happen. You can't have a winter break without playing less games. So the authorities will tinker with the cup games and probably end replays and the two legged league cup semifinals. All this of course will benefit the top teams and reduce opportunities for smaller clubs. There is already enough breaks in the calendar with International games and non participation in later cup rounds. As others have said we all know what the top teams will do, expect a money raising tournament in feckin Dubai. Would getting rid of cup replays and two legged League Cup semi finals be the worst thing? I guess asking the likes of Newport County about cup replays you might get a different answer.

Would getting rid of cup replays and two legged League Cup semi finals be the worst thing? I reckon Newport would think so, Rob. They'd be waving goodbye to three quarters of a million pounds tonight. It would just create a worsening of the situation where those who have get more and those in desperate need have the ladder they earn every now and then kicked from underneath them. Not everything (particularly in how the English game is set up) has to be about the top division and the top teams in that division. That's a fair point mate and one I should have considered.

What happens when the winter break comes in and England are still no good? Which quick fix do we turn to then, rather than trying to address more fundamental issues? I suppose it will be B teams in the lower leagues.
I've got a better idea. Disband the Premier League and return to a bigger First Division with shared gate receipts and TV revenue that goes to the lower leagues. It will have exactly the same effect on the England team's performance as a winter break will: none whatsoever. At least it'll make football better for supporters.

No Premier League when England made the last four of Italia 90 was there? A squad full of talented players of the like we have not seen since. The Premier League was sold to fans as the key to a successful national side, when in actual fact, it’s killed it.

It makes sense to me so as to avoid the usual excuses for our teams failing in Europe.
However, there needs to be some conditions: 1. It starts after the FAC 3rd round. 2. It's on for 2 weeks and the players are to take 10 days off. 3. No friendlies or exhibition games, no training.
And finally; assuming it's the Prem and maybe the Championship - all Season Ticket holders can gain entry to a League 1, 2 or lower league game for no more than £10 - I need my weekly fix of footy....
