Dunner fret.
It's all OK.
When I and others pointed out the sheer and obvious lunacy of not getting a striker come the end of the window, there were plenty of air-guitarists on here that spouted twaddle like:
it's OK, we don't need one
never in the plan
we'll be fine, we have Diouff, he'll score the 1 in 10 chances we (don't) make
and, literally unbelievably,
it's fine - Saddo Bera - chuffin - hiro will 'come good' !
Haha.
It was, and is, as clear as day we need one and we will now reap what we have sown without one.
The fact that the inept pizza dept spent their energies chasing just Ings alone speaks to their competetance or lack thereof.
And if it is true, albeit from a dubious source, that the club's future in the shape of Jon is already a big part of that incompetence, then that is arguably the greater ill.
We might, god willing, get away without a striker (we'll have to).
But we won't get away without starting again on how we go about transfers and get the players we need.

Failure to react quick enough has been peters Achilles heel.
Major overhaul was needed last summer
I doubt this window would have changed anything. The rot had set in

Sorry, but how late into the window did the Sturridge deal get done? Once again the constant fucking dithering with the club will be our downfall. You let the rot set in when you once again FAILED to make any changes in the summer. You and the fucking morons running the club have relegated us through inaction.

Think our media team as been reading the oatcake and he's at to come out and state this. He knows he's dropped a massive bollock. Think we all knew at the beginning of the season we were in battle to stay up this season especially with the signings we made. Wimmer was not even needed fletcher should of just kept whelan and if we only had Walters now really needed someone like him over the last couple of months. This season as been a complete shambles on and off the pitch just hope we get through this and do things a lot different next season

I wonder if Coates the younger is heavily involved in scouting / negotiating and this is protecting the others.

The CE is the man who needs to go along with his cronies ..if a company is failing its the CEO who gets the push and not the team manager.. Scholes has been a disaster and PC needs to open his eyes.

So that target list from world football in full again.. Danny Ings Daniel Ings Dan Ings Ingsy Ings Lord Daniel of Ings Daniel Sturridge (whoops, forget him, he doesn't fit in with the pressing thing) You forgot.. ....egg and bacon; egg sausage and bacon; egg and Ings; egg bacon and Ings; egg bacon sausage and Ings; Ings bacon sausage and Ings; Ings egg Ings Ings bacon and Ings; Ings sausage Ings Ings bacon Ings tomato and Ings; Ings Ings Ings egg and Ings; Ings Ings Ings Ings Ings Ings baked beans Ings Ings Ings... ...or Lobster Thermidor a Crevette with a mornay sauce served in a Provencale manner with shallots and aubergines garnished with truffle pate, brandy and with a fried egg on top and Ings. Have you got anything without Ings? Well, there's Ings egg sausage and Ings, that's not got much Ings in it.

Well if we go down they'll at least halve the £1m a year the CEO gets Flores-style and dump the 3rd rate goalkeeper to cut our cloth accordingly.
Won't they??

Is he really blaming it on the fact that Sturbridge went to West Brom...on the 29th day of the 31 day window. Fuck off.
Ings is shite anyway.

Poor old Coatesy is getting some major grief here for a daft comment. He should be shoving Cartwright or Scholes to the front to answer recruitment questions. But christ this satement says all we need to know about how unfit for purpose our recruitment team is. Anybody with the slightest interest in football will no that Klopp wanted to keep Ings in the squad and the likely departure would be Sturridge. We probably made an enquiry and thats about it. If we really wanted a striker it's not that difficult Brighton Newcastle Swansea West Brom and southampton all seemed to have managed this mission impossible. If we survive and we are serious about continuing to keep our place at the top table we simply have to make a major upgrade to our recruitment team. I am not sure how much evidence the owners need.

A long time ago the owner of Wigan wrote an article (I haven't managed to find it online) explaining that he/the club couldn't persuade players to sign for Wigan even if they offered to pay them 10 million a year. They were constantly having to pay over the odds and high wages for/to players who weren't their first (or second etc) choice. We are not Wigan but Stoke isn't the most fashionable destination in Europe or the Premier League. Plus if you've already got loads of money (I wish) then it loses its wow factor. 60k a week to live/play in Stoke or 45k a week to play somewhere more appealing or prestigious? (sacrilege I know). Throw in a relegation battle and the list of willing candidates gets shorter still. I'm just saying that there is more than one reason for our transfer difficulties. And no I'm not defending our long term scouting & player recruitment people. I hope PL has his own contacts/scouts he trusts ... and I would definitely 'overhaul' the team doing the negotiations). All true of course except Palace , Swansea, West Brom , Newcastle , West Ham all signed strikers I’m the window we simply either dont have the desire or the capability either way it. Sits with those responsible for setting and executing the strategy . equally our PR is so woeful it’s like Jonny English is doing it , sits again at the door of the Ceo what On earth was the logic for this bet 365 pleads we Tried honest we did announcement not a single element of positivity could logically be seen to come out of it , the lack of independence and rigour and football insight is killing us and will do until it changes .

Coates's only fault is to put up with the cretins he employs. There was clearly a big budget there, Sturridge was always going to go somewhere, Ings was therefore an unrealistic target and we couldn't find anyone else despite willing to pay a couple of million loan fee and all the wages. Well done Pizza Cunts. Absolutely right. What PC has done for this club, in the last 12 years, no one would have thought possible. All these simpletons on here abusing PC should hang their empty heads in shame. Do we really want some alien investors from India, China, or Thailand taking over? Where PC must act, however, is to forcibly escort the people that identified and signed Imbula Whimper, Berahino, and Jessie from the building. They are a laughing stock at being in charge of our signings. Yes please , I'll take the foreign investors who seem to know how to buy a striker and keep their club in the league. Leicester seem to be doing fine on it.

In saying this Coates has effectively said the transfer team are unfit for purpose. If we tried and failed to sign a position that we need filling when we are in the relegation zone, a potentially survival situation then we have bugger all chance of improving the squad when the heats off. Cartwright and Scholes should be relieved of their duties.

No we had half of Jan given that we have to wait to see who the new guy wanted and how he'd want to play, maybe we did have other options but the timing of the sacking buggered us.
They didn't "wait to see who the new guy wanted and how he'd want to play" when they signed Bauer, Ndiaye or Stafylidis did they?
All of the negotiations for those players began when Hughes was still the manager.
Everybody knew we needed a striker before the window even opened.
Midfielders and fullbacks would fit in pretty much any way of playing, if we signed a big lump and we needed a little pacy thing it wouldn't have helped, a stiker would have been nice but I think we have enough if used right, by that I mean using Diouf or Bera from the off and only using Crouch at the end of games if desperate.

It seems Coates has just given up. The investment has gone and now he's coming out with stupid statements.
I will never forget 'I don't know what all the fuss is about' when the rot was really stinking and that it reached a point where we had already been sucked in to trouble.
The fear now is if we go down are we to follow Sunderland's path?
