Where is the money nowadays? Does a good boxset (say breaking bad for example) make more money than a box office hit film?
Seems to be a change in viewing habits, whereas people like to get more drawn into a series rather than the quick fix of a film. Also do actors prefer series as it gives them time to develope a character?

A lot more "big movie" actors are moving to TV but a smash hit film will make considerably more money than a tv series. The actors will get paid more for it also. As you say though, the chance to take on a character for a prolonged period over many episodes does seem to be attracting the bigger names nowadays, that could be to the fact there are so many interesting and diverse tv shows now being made OR because there are less original movies being made now. Tbh, it's probably a mixture of the two.
.. give me a box set binge over a film any day.

Good to have choice.
A visit to the flicks will always have aspects of a social occasion and those big releases will be where the moneys at.With spin offs, merchandising and that. But it's getting less likely to get edgy/risky box office releases.
It's good what Netflix are doing, their original series are often, and increasingly great.
Personally I prefer a good brisk televisual sprint I think, rather than a marathon. Often disengage after season 1.

Netflix and Amazon are pumping so much money into original content its unbelievable
the crown on Netflix has cost 10,000,000 per episode
the results are spectacular and much more enjoyable than a trip down the odeon

Massive issue. Theatres can't compete with the money that Netflix&Amazon pay. Novelists have been told for years by editors to cut down on content. Now, because of box sets & the consumers ability to get lost in the complexities of the narrative, writers are being told to go bigger

Box sets for me.
Random thought, if Netflix were say to buy the rights to all premier league games does that mean they’ll be able to show 3pms?
