He has definitely had a wake up call and put a shift in.
In fact after 65 minutes I thought he was blowing very hard and feeling it a bit. Hopefully PL will get his fitness level up in the next couple of weeks.

For all of his faults, he’s our difference maker. If we can keep him happy and engaged, he’s the player who elevates is above and beyond the mediocrity of the current group of relegation candidates. If Lambert can continue to get that level of performance out of him, we’ll score more than enough goals to stay up.....assuming he does likewise with the defense. He’s easily worth a goal a game when he’s on it, and we don’t have another player who comes close to that.

Imagine losing Shaq and the welsh Pirlo for a period of time. Then we are fucked.

Strangely for somebody of his pedigree, he seems quite insecure and needing an arm around the shoulder, which Lambert might be better at than Hughes. Arnie never lacked confidence in I think they way Shaqiri does even with a far less significant track record behind him. I think the German-speaking and energetic Bauer will do him the world of good behind him, not unlike the Swiss fullback he links up well with

I dont think he was off the pace, he just didn't have his shooting boots on. On top of setting up Diouf he had 3 great (by his standards) chances to score, very nearly had a fourth of Diouf could have got the ball from under his feet and also set up a good Crouch/Choupo chance. Not forgetting his disallowed goal. If he gets/does that every game but hits the net then we will be fine. They all need some shooting practice. I am not sure they practiced much of anything for the past 18 months. They definitely didn’t work on defending (as MW). As the late, great Arnold Palmer said “it’s funny, the more practice, the luckier I get”. They didn’t seem to work on fitness either.

I think the German-speaking and energetic Bauer will do him the world of good behind him, not unlike the Swiss fullback he links up well with Arni is as insecure as they come. He is reported to have spoken the coaches on the phone for hours after every game about his performance and how he could have done better. Hence Hughes’s retort when he was subbed against Stoke: “f*** off, you ungrateful f***er”. Somewhere along the road Hughes changed and lost his ability to connect with the players. It started in the FA Cup loss to Wolves, when three players were subbed at HT and left the stadium in a huff.
