So glad that we've got rid of the zonal marking bollocks and good to see that were mixing up the play from the back/long ball tactics

Clive Clarke on Signal said we were man to man!

Yes from corners we still had 3 zonal markers on the six yard line, 4 if you include Chopper on the front post.

So did we or didn't we, I have not got a clue, but it did look a bit more organised and there were 10 Stoke men in our box defending a corner

Honestly i think we've been pretty decent from set pieces this season defensively. Open play has been the issue, and that was much improved today.

No zonal marking as far as I could see. Almost back to grapple mania, and thank fuck for that. It actually looked like we cared.

They had Stoke in mind when they invented the rule that a penalty should be awarded for grappling in the box. They applied it only to Stoke - i would go as far as to say it was applied with a certain amount of relish at the first opportunity. And even though every team man marks and grapples while doing it, only Stoke got penalized for it. We therefore have to mark zonally, because while man marking is an option for every other team, it is not tolerated if Stoke do it.

Or was it a case of man marking and those who had no man to mark did zonal :-)

Or was it a case of man marking and those who had no man to mark did zonal :-) I don't think anyone does full on zonal. Certainly on the corner(s) in the first half we had 3 across the 6 yard line marking the zones, Chopper on the front post and then the rest marked a man.

All the big guys were in the six yard box,so zonal. The rest picked up a man.
So a bit of both.
Next step leave Shaqiri and Choupo up top, other side leaves four back. One guy taking the corner That leaves five in the box to deal with.

Zonal means you mark the space, not a player (effectively)
We didn't do zonal marking today. We were marking man to man

We definitely were marking men and zones. This. We've never done full on zonal anyway. We've done a bit of a hybrid. As Lordb said the 3 big men were on the edge of the 6 yard box marking the zones and the rest marked men. It's what we did under Hughes only we seemed to do it better today (although Huddersfield were particularly shit).
