24 year old left back. Reports we're going for a loan. Would make sense given recent reports we're looking at an LB.

I wonder if this would be a loan with a view to buy given he hasn't played much this season?

Kostas Staphylidis is in search of a team, since the current season is not calculated by Augsburg. The international ace only counts two matches with the German team and has taken the decision to leave. Stoke, for its part, after Paul Lambert's recruitment to technical leadership, is looking for players to step up the team and began debates with the 24-year-old ace to acquire it in the form of borrowing by the end of the season. If the transfer goes on, then Staphylidis will become the fourth Greek to compete at the Premier League right after Karnezis, Holebas and Mavropanos.

Interesting that he spent 2014-15 on loan at Fulham in the Championship

Perhaps he's out so much because Stafylidis is antibiotic resistant?

Looks like these reports have been in the Greek press all day yesterday.. linkStaphylidis in the Premier League! That's because Augsburg's Stoke City negotiations are in the final line for the half-year loan of the 25-year-old former left-wing, formerly of PAOK. Staphylidis, of course, taste from England has taken, as in the 2014-15 season he fought at Fulham, which participated in the Championship. And then, loan. From Leverkusen to which he had returned next season, before being sold to Augsburg instead of 2.5m euros. Although last year he played in 29 league and cup matches, this year counts for just 31 minutes, fighting as a two-match match. For ten minutes in the away match against Eindhracht Frankfurt with 2-1 (16/9) and also away from Bayern (18/11). Staphylides' contract with Augsburg expires on 30/6/2019, and Stoke will now probably give 600,000 euros to the German club. Just yesterday, the 18th Premier League, which was defeated 3-0 by Manchester United, announced the recruitment of Paul Lambert after releasing Mark Hughes.

Or you could play 4231 with Shaqiri as a number 10 and Ryan looking comfortable as part of a centre back pair, of course.

Of course. But don't expect Choupo Moting to help out defensively if he's one of the wide players which exposes us away from home. At our place I wouldn't be against that.....

Posted these on the New Signings thread earlier ...
I notice Lambert has been at Augsburg in Germany looking at coaching whilst he was on his sabbatical? I wonder if he spotted Kostas Stafylidis while he was there, and if he did I wonder if he rated him? 24 year old left back, Greek International, quick and very attacking (very similar to Bauer), out of contract in 18 months time and shares the same agency as Choupo-Moting ? Philipp Max is also there but he is on the radar of a lot of top clubs. Such a great shout, that is. outsideoftheboot.com/2016/10/13/scout-report-konstantinos-stafylidis/

Choupo is done for me mate.
Ramadan would be there for the rest of the season as far as I'm concerned with Diouf on the right, both are far more prepared to help their full backs out.

The onlooker with a pretty sensational guess it seems?! Or The Onlooker is Paul Lambert and always has been. Using a very particular and strategic way of unsettling the stoke hierarchy from behind the keyboard waiting for his moment to pounce up on the vacant managerial position which he caused by turning the oatcake against Mark Hughes. 😮😁

Can he cross a ball though? If he can't then we're really not upgrading on Pieters in that sense.

That's what you'd have to play mate. And of course I'm not the kind of person who would drag up old posts of you questioning Diouf's worth out wide which is lucky for you

As I've said further up mate, Monday was the last straw for me with Moting, I'd play Diouf and Ramadan either side of Shaqiri because they're both far more prepared to help out their full backs, although I'd obviously be targeting right wing in the summer.
Butland
Bauer Shawcross Bruno Stafylidis
Allen NEW
Diouf Shaqiri Ramadan
NEW
That would still be four new first team players in total in the January window.
