When you look at choupo turning his back on Valencia's opening goal then witness jones block on choupo shot it encapsulates a little why we are in trouble.
We have to be braver and we have to start putting bodies on the line.
The days of Leon cort blocking a goal bound effort with his face seem a lifetime ago with this lot.

It's not nit picking. There is a lack of desperation not to concede. Is it as a result of shipping 50 or the cause of it?

Let's not forget Choupo not smashing Pogba in the build up to the goal.
There was a 50-50 there and he stopped.

Absolutely correct. That Jones block was tremendous commitment and the sort of thing we should have seen a lot more of this season.

The bit in the second half at 2-0 where Wimmer actually turned his back on Lukaku when there was a 60-40 in his favour and another defender to help him out summed things up. The defending of a eunuch.

It’s why Choupo Moting cannot be played out wide in a 4-2-3-1 he’s a defensive liability and left Tymon exposed time after time.
Shaqiri and Bauer not so bad as Shaqiri does actually work a bit harder and Bauer looks to have the pace to recover.
If we play that system it simply has to be Sobhi and Shaqiri with the current personnel......

PL must tell them a few (lot) of home truths if they want to stay at our club picking up their nice fat salaries.
Hopefully he's going to get stuck into them straight from today's training. (Do they train today after a game last night ?)
Things have to improve sharpish !

Yep, the main problem with Kevin Wimmer is, he doesn't possess a pair of bollocks. It's not really possible to train a pair of bollocks into someone so it's hard to see him improving. Quite how he's got as far in the game as he has with his brand of bollock free football is pretty hard to fathom.

Leave the friendliness for the full time whistle

Agree, Zouma should have been flying at Lukaku to stop the third.

That’s the root of our problems. We lost the fighters with Glenn Whelan and Jon Walters etc leaving. Not enough players in this squad are willing to get stuck in and put their bodies on the line.

No sense of urgency and barely a single set of bollocks between 11 of them. The OP's right to question the cowardice of Choupo, buck your ideas up or fuck off.

PL to Andy Quy..... it’s 9 o’clock Andy where are the lads for training AQ.........they never come in for training the day after a game boss. PL.........get me my fucking phone now. Fitness has been lacking throughout the squad for a couple of years imo. Last night we started very well and even after conceding we looked like we may pull it back. Then just before half time we lost it. This has been endemic almost throughout Hughes tenure and goes some way to explain our complete inabilty to kill games off once we are ahead and dominating play. This is an area I’m sure PL would have picked up on last night. Of course along with defence, midfield and goal scoring frailties.

It's not like he's good at bringing it out from the back either and he seems to get caught out of position on a regular basis so fuck knows what anyone has seen in him.

Last night was good overall but we really are a bunch of fannies. When was the last time someone got angry with the opposition and put a cruncher of a tackle in? Only Joe Allen looks like he wants to get involved in the rough stuff where it matters and when your defenders aren't charging into tackles, you've got a problem. If the likes of Wilko were playing, they'd be flying into tackles and making a fist of it. Most of the players we've signed would rather shake hands with the fuckers and make sure they're OK. I hope Lambert watches it back (pretty sure he will) and tells anyone being pally-pally with the opposition to buck their ideas up. I'm not saying being nasty will win us games but as a supporter it drives me mental when you see these soft arses on the pitch not willing to put their body on the line.
The main thing this side needs is committed defenders and some bollocks. If that means leaving the likes of Zouma, Wimmer & Choupo out indefinitely then do it. Right now we need players who will stand up and be counted, not shirkers.

You can train technique, you can educate positional and tactical awareness and you can improve fitness. You can't give somebody bottle if they're a coward.

Its not nit-picking Dave, its a valid point and one that has been eating away at me for a while.
ECM is a good player, but his attitude and application are not up to the premier league IMO and certainly not what is required for a relegation scrap. He plays every game like its a friendly - a knock about with his mates - he does not show any desire, grit or determination and never seems to go above 75% effort. When he has the ball, 9 times out of 10 he either loses it trying something unlikely to come off or just passes it backwards. It was telling that when he came off last night there was not a bead of sweat on his forehead.
In an interview I read a while ago he expressed that he is not generally a fan of football and does not show much interest away from the pitch - maybe this has some bearing on it (Spooky given the mention of Boswinga above - he said the same thing if my memory serves...)? Either way, I think Lambert needs to have a word.

to be honest I think this is one of our main issues , on their Second goal Shaq could have got back and tried to stop Martial shooting , we rarely seek to block moves or have the nouse to upset teams now and a lot of these teams have much better players than us so you have to compete even harder .
Not all but some of our problems could be fixed by signing a couple of strong characters with less ability than the ones we have .
I have said this before , but we have become the west Brom we used to take the piss out of a few years ago , pretty, powder puff and ineffective .

Right now we need players who will stand up and be counted, not shirkers. Agree with most of that, we seem to have lost our identity as a club with some of our signings,we’ve lost the balance in the squad between skill sets and steel in the players. The first few seasons in the prem, some of tackles and blocks that our players use to put in, week after week were immense, it use get the stadium rocking, the amount of so called “top players “ that use to fade out of the game was common, they didn’t fancy the battle at all, we need some of this back, and quick

I'm perpetually frustrated by Choupo-Moting because with his physical assets and quick feet he should be a lot better than he is. He has swings more violent and more often than Arnie did, last night encapsulated this again. I know it was at Old Trafford but that was not the same player we saw earlier in the season against the same team.
Having said all that, he's the least of our problems at the moment.
