Regis in his pomp is exactly what we need now, great player...... Lovely video that.Brought a lump to my throat.... That thumping last goal and the cheese and onion strip as i called it as a kid, great memories. Strong as an ox physically, would certainly be no need for the mama role with him: flicks it on 20 yards then retrieves the ball himself for the second goal! 😃

I remember singing "We're so good it's unbelievable" at the Vic as we LOST 0-3 to a Cyrille Regis inspired Baggies
What a player
Such a sad loss, and at the same age, and in the same week (some years apart), as Jeff Astle
RIP big fella

I seem to remember him scoring a cracking goal against us at The Vic, straight from a goal kick. My mind might be playing tricks on me, though.
Cracking player, sad news.
RIP.

I met him at West Brom's training ground when I was a kid watching a family friend who was in their U18's.
He signed my program and asked why I was there in a Stoke top. I remember him being huge.
What a shame he has gone so young. RIP

A class player who not only fought against the opposing team but also against attitudes in the stands.
Rest in peace, Cyril.

So sad, far too young. The tributes have been so moving, as a human being as well as aplayer. I loved John Sillett's to have taken him so young they must have needed a centre-forward in heaven.
RIP Cyrille xx

Thanks Oatcake. As a Baggie, I am so moved that the affection that we felt for Cyrille is shared by the wider football community. The hostility that he faced was truly intimidating. The worst I saw was at West Ham, when it seemed that the whole ground was baying for his blood. (You can get a small flavour of the abuse black players endured in the Old Trafford 5-3 clip posted on here when Cunningham sets up Tony Brown)
I'd take relegation tomorrow, to see Big Cyrille walking down Halfords Lane, fit and well, to watch the next home game, as he did last Saturday.
A great player and an even better man.
RIP.

Great player but don't really get why they are having the applause at all games, there must be players dieing every week, are we going to have applause for all of them. WBA etc. I can understand, but can't see what it has to do with us.

WBA etc. I can understand, but can't see what it has to do with us. It has everything to do with Football and his role in transforming attitudes (maybe not yours!) and a recognition of the shit they had to endure to do their job. He had a massive impact on our culture. Today, between 30-40% players in the Premier League are black and racism is abhorred by the vast majority of its fans. They were pioneers working against bigotry and prejudice something we should all recognise and respect imho. I'm extremely happy that our football authorities recognise such people. Its a mark of progress for a society to acknowledge people who make a huge impact on so many people's lives www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42693383

WBA etc. I can understand, but can't see what it has to do with us. It may appear odd to some younger fans that Cyrille Regis is being honoured at every prem ground this weekend (and probably at a lot of other grounds too) and I can understand that. However to fans who were watching football in those days he was an iconic figure for the abuse he had to take. The way he rose above it and let his football silence the racists is something worth celebrating across the country. He was also probably the best of the black players of that era.

Before my time sadly but nobody should be given shit for trying to do there job just because of the colour of the skin. Got to love the fact he let his talent do the talking which was effectively two fingers up to the idiots that probably thought black people cant swim either. I'll applaud him tomorrow.
RIP Cyril.

On SCFC homepage right now:"#SCFC can confirm that we shall be wearing black armbands and hold a minute’s silence in memory of Cryille Regis who sadly passed away earlier this week". SCFC can't even get his name right

What a player along with Laurie Cunningham RIP Big man I think that is my favourite non stoke game. Ive seen that so many times. A classic game of football with the added ingredient of the west brom trio, the black lads just answering the abuse and boos with swashbuckling football. Addressing ignorance with fire and sparkle. When you think back to those times and all this national front stuff and the rest of it. Not only was regis a good footballer he was an inspiration. What an amazing legacy to leave.
