With age often comes perspective and wisdom. Not always though clearly...... I bet Sufolkstokie has seen more Stoke games than you ever have or will and all from a long distance He's a proper Stokie so leave well alone We are all entitled to express opinions. For what it’s worth I first went in 1968 so I have probably seen more more than Suffolk. Mr Coates may have left it to late who knows however he’s acted let’s hope the next appointment has the support and funds to keep us, that’s all we can hope for.

Not at all. Just a Stoke fan of 47 years with a positive attitude. You might have been to more games than me (although if you have, you will be well into 4 figures in games by now and have travelled abroad quite a bit), but that has not stopped you talking out of your arse. BTW - not sure where you come from exactly but there are two “ffs” in Suffolk (if that is what you are trying to spell).

This idea that we’re completely fucking doomed, when in reality, we’re a couple of wins away from the top half of the table. It was time for him to go, and granted, the decision should probably have been made a few weeks ago, but now it’s done and we need to look forward. Coates hasn’t destroyed us, and to suggest that is the case is, with all due respect, utter bollocks. It would seem you’ve been around the block enough to know we’ve been in far, far worse predicaments and also to know just how much Coates has done to rebuild and revitalize the club in the last 12 years or so. Sorry to butt in, but we needed more decisive leadership in the summer. Hughes was quite obviously floundering and the summer's transfer business compounded the problem. The Coates family have definitely brought us back from anonymity but they either became complacent or failed to follow through with the necessary investment in the club or perhaps they lost sight of their original vision...... who knows which except them and their close confidants? Replacing the manager a few weeks ago would have been more astute in retrospect but the summer was the correct time to make that decision and it should have been done then.

I think Hughes had enough credit in the bank to be given a chance to correct course after the summer, and Coates has never been the "trigger happy" type. He's rightly, in my opinion, given Hughes the opportunity to turn things around, and now he's pulled the trigger, albeit a few weeks too late. The transfer business was a disaster in retrospect, especially given the system that Hughes decided upon after getting that business done. With that said, I still don't think Coates has "destroyed us" and we're in a position that is salvageable even at this late stage. The real test of Coates' mettle is what happens over the next three weeks. He needs to make the right appointment and then provide the necessary backing.

I'd agree that it's too knee-jerk to say that Coate's has destroyed us.......that's not fair on him, but in my opinion it was totally obvious that he'd lost his way well before the end of last season regardless of our finishing position......maybe he had bought into his reputation as a supportive owner to the detriment of the club. Regardless of that mistake, as I see it, he needs to step-up now and make the right appointment and provide the necessary backing as you quite rightly say. Hughes has left us in a definite hole and the deficiencies in the squad are glaring and troubling and they have been all season if not considerably longer. Interesting times ahead, I reckon........

You'd better make the right appointment Peter, or all eyes will be on you.
