They've definitely been guilty of blind optimism at the very best. It's totally impossible to see how they've mismanaged the Hughes issue so badly. Totally gobsmacked that they stuck with him so long and that lack of decisiveness is very likely to relegate us.

We wouldn't be where we are without Coates so not sure about that. However the blame isn't just at Hughes' door. Yes, he is tactically inept and cant get the best out of his players. Yes he picks a formation and forces players to play out of position rather than pick formations and tactics that play to his players strengths. And yes its a results business so he must go!
But Cartwright and Scholes are equally to blame! They choose the incoming players, they have allowed this mess to happen and they paid bloody £18M for Wimmer!!! The whole club top to bottom needs a bloody good shake up but for me; Coates and the BET365 money stays!

They probably can't convince anyone else with a "name" to come to our club hence the sticking with what they have.

Hard to say, he should've been replaced in the summer and there must have been realistic alternatives then, I would've thought.

If theyre so arrogant to think they can compete in the prem on the cheap (youth team) because we’ve been here a while then they should sell to a more ambitious group
But, Let’s hope our position wakes them up and we get a quality manager with a warchest to match

The Coates family have tried to put a management structure in place, which they hoped would make Stoke sustainable. They have relied on Cartwright and Scholes for player dealings, for which then Mark Hughes has had to manage them on the pitch. Blame these three and the coaching staff but the Coates family are Stoke supporters and they will be even more gutted that their trust and confidence in these people has been badly misplaced.

He’s the main problem. He continues to employ the likes of Scholes and Cartwright even though their lack of knowledge in football shows. The manager should have been sacked last season but he took the cheap option and he’s trying to do it now. We’ve been one of the lowest spenders since Hughes took over. He’s slowly dragging the club back down which is bizarre after the effort he put in to get us here. If he’s not willing to spend to compete then he should move on, if he can’t/won’t sit at the big boys table then its time to go.

And they should have been far more proactive and decisive at board level ages agoThe board are responsible for overall strategy and have fallen well short of providing strong leadership Mismanagement at senior level of massive proportions

The way the club is ran is a massive problem to be fair. Hughes isn't the end of our problems. And any new manager will face the same limitation.

If Coates keeps fiddling whilst Stoke City burns, he will be lucky to give us away.
