I have also looked at Huddersfield and Watford. Bourno after too. Three winnable games that if won would get us out of the shit and back towards stability. But we've had that all season. Win this to get back on track. Win this to get back on track. Win this to get back on bloody track. And we never do because we are too flaky and at times too bloody stupid. Even when we win it's a nervous restless anxious flow of seeping desperation. Your missing the point. This is not about getting back on track. We are way too far off track now. If there is anything positive about our current predicament it is that our objective is remarkably simple: survival by any means. A couple of wins will not get us back on track as we have little to no chance finishing in the top ten, are quite likely to lose key players at the end of the season and it is almost impossible to imagine Hughes winning the fans back. However, if we win those two games, or win one and draw the other, that will dramatically improve our chances of survival. Lose them and we are down. It is also wrong to say that we never do. We did go to Watford and win when we were under pressure. We did beat West Brom when we needed to. If we can beat Watford at Vicarage Road when they are in good form, we can beat them again at the Brit. If we can beat West Brom, there is no reason we cannot beat Huddersfield. It is pointless writing ourselves off completely at this stage.

We can't beat Newcastle at home so Im not overly convinced we can take 6 points v Watford and Huddersfield regardless of how bad they might be playing right now. You can bet your bottom dollar that when we turn up we will make the opposition look like Real Madrid. If you really think this then why not do it? Go and bet your bottom dollar. If everyone on here is so convinced that football is that easy to predict, why don't you all remortgage your houses and put every penny you have on us going down? Football just does not work like that. We are in the shit, but we are not sunk yet. Those two games will likely determine our fate 6 points = we will probably survive 4 points = we might survive 2 points = we are probably down 1 point or less = we are down

Yeah if only we had been like all those other teams who have been to the Etihad this season. I think you missed the point. We had a chance to put the Man City result straight behind us in the next game and move forward - we didn't. True, but then the following game we won away at Watford. It is not possible to turn things around and have a good season. It is possible for us to beat the drop and rebuild in the summer.

We've lost to Palace, Bournemouth, West Ham & Newcastle (twice) this season already. No chance we're getting maximum points from both. Maybe 4 if we're lucky. Four would be enough to give us a fighting chance.

I share the general sense of doom and gloom on here right now, but we know how quickly things can change in football. Regardless of what happens at Old Trafford, if we can claim back to back wins at home to Huddersfield and Watford, the table will look a whole lot different. Six points from those two games would take us to 26 points in total (which would be roughly on track to the 40 point mark) and probably a good 5 points clear of the relegation places. Even if we were to take only 4 points from those two games, we would probably jump a couple of points clear of the bottom three. On current form we could quite easily lose both of those, which would be disastrous. However, neither of those sides are better than us on paper. We have already beaten Watford away from home this season, we appear to be their bogey side, and they are not exactly on a great run of form themselves at the moment. Huddersfield are extremely inconsistent and difficult to predict, but on paper we are certainly the stronger side. Regardless of our current form and tactics, we still have quality players like Allen and Shaqiri who, on their day, can be matchwinners. We also have one of the best goalkeepers in the league. It is probably not exaggerating to say that those two games are the two biggest league games for our club in the last decade. Win those two, and our points tally and league position improves dramatically, some of the pressure is relieved and the players will have more confidence for the remaining battle. From that position, we will most likely battle through to survival and a new manager can come in and rebuild in the summer. Lose those two games and we are probably down. These two fixtures could determine our fate, not just for the remainder of the season, but for years to come given what is potentially at stake here. I wish the club had done a better job of preparing for contingencies and that Hughes had been sacked a few weeks ago. However, we are where we are. It will be fine margins. If we do go down, lets make sure we go down fighting and we as fans hold our nerve during the two most important 90 minutes we will witness in many years. Football is often full of surprises, and we won't help our cause by writing ourselves off before the battle has really begun. VISA UNITA FORTIOR. Personally think we need 9 from the 12 available in those 4 games after Man Utd to stand any sort of chance. Given how close things are I think it won't be necessary to get the full 40 points this season. If we were to take 6-7 points from those games, we would be more or less on track for the 40 point mark in any case.
