If we do have to put up with Hughes for much more can he at least stop persisting with this fucking wing back formation that clearly doesn't suit the personnel that we have.
The bloke has all the tactical nouse of Lord Cardigan!

Pointless thread. If he stays he will play the wingback system. Hopefully he brings in the players to play the system

442 doesn't work. We don't have any creative strikers, it wastes our only decent attacker and we don't have the midfield for it. The only formation that has worked for Hughes is an attacking 4231.

Against Swansea, Burnley and West Ham. We haven't played the wing back system since the dicking by Tottenham. We've played 4-2-3-1 in our last three games.

We cannot play 442 as we have no central midfielders who can play in a middle two - we have the aged, slow limbs of Fletch, the lard arsery of Adam, the converted centre back Cameron, with his limited technical ability, the harrying, chasing, pressing Allen, and the technically proficient, but perennially injured, Afellay.
When Bruno and Ryan return, maybe we can just stick two big bodies there, in Cameron and Zouma, for nuisance value if nothing else.
We have the leakiest defence in the league, but it is not just down to the defence, as teams waltz through our midfield most weeks virtually unopposed.

We have the attacking talent to win games, Hughes is just too scared to use it. It worked in the past, and we kept a lot of clean sheets. Unless you think a back 4 of Johnson Shawcross Wollscheid Pieters is better than what we have now.

It works for teams with pace who can break quickly. We lump the ball up to Crouch & get players around him only to get caught on the break time & time again. I do agree that our defence now is better than that defence though.

We lump the ball to Crouch with no players around him. The fact we're playing him wastes the rest of our attacking talent. Without a striker that can move and run in behind we basically play 451. We defend and defend for no reason because we don't play our best players in our best formation.

Since we ditched 3 at the back our performances and results have arguably taken a turn for the worse I agree, also coincides with when we started playing Crouch from the off.
