Hard to explain what this is, The defect is enormous, it could be a number of things, poor clearances from our defenders ?, unwillingness to compete for the second ball? , Ball watching ? frozen statues ? zonal marking ? - Central midfield where one player out of two (or three usually) ?
does all the running perhaps, its just down to simple -
rank bad coaching ??
Maybe the answers a combination of all of the above
One things for sure, that result today massive as it was, papers over so many cracks, it, just not true
Twice I've seen this recently now - going two up at home (more or less) by halftime, only to fall back in the second half and pretty much volunteer a hammering against such poor, poor, opposition its not true.
this time ( fortunately) it was us that delivered the sucker punch
but, we still have so many problems right now, its quite frightening to contemplate
was this the team that Beat Arsenal and were unfortunate not to beat Manchester United ?
seems like an age ago

Thankfully it was filled today by a Massive Choupo Mountain. Another square hole filed by a round peg, why is this such a common solution in this team.

A former player commented recently and said that Hughes doesn't do the coaching on the training ground he observes and leaves it to MB and EN

A hole. A massive great Glen Whelan shaped hole ,,, Apparently he's not good at Villa but can't be much worse than Fletcher who was sank today. we got a win today but you wouldn't bet on us against anyone

A hole. A massive great Glen Whelan shaped hole ,,, Bring him back. He's been fucking mustard for Villa hasn't he?!! I’m not advocating bringing him back. But he was the workhorse in our midfield and he’s not been adequately replaced. Fletcher may have had a better career but at this stage he’s no better than Whelan was. In fact for the last few games he’s been a dam site worsr

The hole as never been filled since Nzonzi left. By far the best central midfielder weve had in the premiership.

I think the hole is more Nzonzi shaped than Whelan shaped I would agree

Bang on. We were ticking like a clock and his departure has damaged us It is two and a half years since he left. Yep about the time the rot started. Our ability to deal with balls played over the top is atrocious. It’s so obvious what the problem is but what is the answer with the squad we have? Other than call back muniesa and try him in midfield. Our strength in depth is non existent as is our pace and ball winning ability If it wasn’t for joe Allen running around like a rabid dog most games our goal against tally would be a lot worse. We do need a an nzonzi type player in the middle as much as we need oxygen.

This is the problem our abject failure to adequately replace our better players when we sell them, it started when Hughes replaced Huth with Wolfy who was a bit shit so we bought in Wimper who looks worse than Wolfy, then we had MVG as a replacement for Zonz, then he bought in Imbula to replace MVG who was a bit shit Imbula turned out to be a nightmare signing. We replace Whelan who's legs were going with Flethcher who's legs have already gone, sell Arnie and replace him with a freebie who isn't in the same ball park as Arnie our transfer dealings are pathetic.

Watch out on New Years Day when Newcastle come at us with all guns blazing, fast wingers and midfielders and Hoss Cartwright with a point to prove. The holes will be there for all to see.
