We told the man he had to win and he won - ok it was a somewhat flattering scoreline but you could argue that was recent bad luck evening itself out. Tactical changes, well yes there were some alho under pressure I'm not sure how much impact they had, and very little about today - definitely not their goal - convinced me we were any sounder defensively.
But fair's fair and that was also two important points knocked off the GD from hell, so on the day from me it's well done Sparky:
7*

Side had the right shape given the opponent's and for once he made the right substitutions at the right times.
However Stoke came out second half at sixes and sevens which was weird having scored just before half time.

10. Absolutely huge game. 1st half played some good stuff and went in deservedly 2 up. Then stood strong against an onslaught. West Brom threw the lot at us and rightly so. Good use of the subs and great to grab a 3rd killer goal.
Come on now Hughes kick us on

We are better defensively with him playing deeper, and we would be better offensively with more quality at number 10. A tap in doesn't change that. Just like his purple patch from last season didn't.

5*
More or less the right team, Cameron in midfield does is a big help to the structure of the team. Flecther needs dropping though, and Afellay should have replaced him to keep the extra man in midfield; feel as though Crouch should have come off for Diouf to give us extra pace on the break. Delighted that he started Edwards and was nice to see Ramadan come on and get his goal.
Biggest negative was, though, was the terrible negative mentality that we adopted in the second half. West Brom are utter garbage and were absolutely there for the taking, but we were happy to sit back at 2-0. Their early goal put us totally on the back foot and we were fortunate that they didn't equalise (a better team would have, by the way). Just like against Southampton and Swansea, whenever we take the lead we retreat. With our defensive record you just can't do that and it's really awful to watch.

Only because put the boot on the other foot. If we were 2 down away in a huge 6 pointer I’d have wanted see us throw the lot in and try pull ourselves back. They did exactly that to be fair. Admittadley it was a bloody soft goal give away

A tap in doesn't change that. Just like his purple patch from last season didn't. Yes we would but Hughes decided that Allen buzzing around Crouch was a good way to score today. It worked. Come on give the man some credit. Second half when it wasn't working he changed it.

Subs were decent.
2nd half was abysmal though.

*7 A win by god did we need a win didn't matter how it came about. Team selection about right I thought that Edward had an excellent game hes clearly got a way to go in development but there's a player in there. The defense still causes me sleepless nights.

This, but my rating would be 6.5 A great result, but the second half was very poor. We still managed to avoid an equaliser though and you're only as good as the result indicates.

4 - we were awful, luckily they are even worse. Weak in midfield and a shambles at the back.

3 points, shitting himself for a must win games. Talked the talk crawled the walk. You can only beat who is put in front of you and largely we can't. 3 points away at Huddersfield could calm some nerves. I can't see past a loss but for now it's a welcome rest bite, especially as the chairman doesn't seem to be in the mood for change.

6* a must win and we did but fucking hell we made hard work of it. IMO Crouch shouldn't have started and Saido should have got some game time. What has Fletcher got to do to get dropped? Everyone back for corners and free kicks, Shaq is not a winger and every team now aee this as a weakness and have started to double up on our right back knowing there's no defensive support. There is still so much wrong at Stoke at the moment but a win is a win and its 3 more points to safety. Gouranga.

Today - 10
Must win game
I didn`t mind the team choice or the formation, took a chance on Wimmer at LB and he did very well.
Dropping Choup was a good call and bringing him back today.
Made decent changes when needed.
Based on nothing but today he did very well indeed.
The time for judgement again will be how we carry this decent win into the next match on Boxing day.

10* from me and that's because that was a mahoosive 3 points for us against a team that have been our bogey side for a few yonks now. I didn't care how we did it and I've got skid marks to show how pent up I was until that lovely goal went in at the end. Now all you fuckers can disect everything while I enjoy my Xmas pud with a big grin on my face. OS.

A game we had to win and did. A solid first half, I actually think starting crouch works, for the reason of the first goals - he will win balls and get knock downs to anyone arsed enough to get into a scoring position.
Managed to hang on in the second half and the subs were about right. Shaqiri is wasted wide (but had a decent first half), but for once he put a put out a formation for 11 players, not one.
So happy for Edwards to play well and be in a winning side.
I will give Hughes a solid 7, but it terms of our season it may be worth more than that.
