Look, I'm as fed up as anyone with recent performances, and I believe we need a change of manager, but those of us who sat through the holocaust season and some of the even worse crap in the ensuing decades must surely realise that the slight chance of relegation from the Premier League is just grist to the mill compared with some of those seasons.
We are, let's not forget, not even in the bloody relegation zone.
Some of the younger, newer fans can be forgiven for not fully understanding some of the utter shite we've been through in the past. Reading about it isn't anything like experiencing it. Wet midweek home games getting thrashed by pathetic teams like Grimsby or whoever (sorry Grimsby).
Us older hands have a social responsibility to guide the newer fans (who are just as valuable to our club, if not more so) through these trying times. This is what supporting Stoke is mostly like, we get good spells but this is often how it is, we are not going down and we are going to start the fight back by kicking West Brom's fat arse on Saturday.

Just because we've been shitter doesn't make it okay and we should ignore it, the past has no baring on whats happening now.

Even if we go down, which we probably won't, it's not the end of the world and those of us who've been round the block a few times have a responsibility to try and keep the newer fans' heads from dropping. If we let our heads drop the team picks up on it and we will struggle. It shouldn't be like this but it is.

Last season we were bottom of the division for several weeks after a run of results far worse than recently, and still stayed up.

Oh right, i think we're at the point where the team are struggling that much it wouldn't make a difference, saying that I thought the fans were spot on against West Ham.

Sadly the team was not. However, onwards and upwards.

I get what the OP is saying, but I also think that this situation is less forgivable than previous disasters. We are currently awash with money in a pretty shit league, but crap recruitment has got us here, from a great base two years ago. We haven't even got the excuse of a roof collapsing this time.
