This current side wouldn't because the better players would leave at the end of the season and we will face years of lower league football

Unlikely we are the joint record holders of the lowest points to win automatic promotion to the Premier League. You normally have to have a far better season than we did when promoted to get promoted to this league by right. I can't really see any of the dour bastards that Coates would go for achieving it unless we lucked out again.

To be honest I don't think we are the type of club who would. That's why we have to sacrifice playing style for results and safety.

It took nearly a quarter of a century and the appointment of T. Pulis, after 12 other managers had tried and failed, to get back last time we fell out of the top flight, it would be a very poor idea to go and get relegated.

We would be due back up by about the year 2042 if past results are anything to go by. Short of great advances in cryogenics in the near future I doubt I will be around to see it!

We would have the money but you only need to look at Leeds. Don't give that place up lightly

What a terrifying thought . (I’m under the influence and my first attempt at writing this simple post came out as “what thought effofying thought”.)

The honest truth is we will be back in the queue of other medium/biggish clubs waiting for their cyclical return to the premier league- possibly a 20 or 30 year wait, look at Forest, Coventry, Leeds, Sheffield Weds, Sheffield Utd the list goes on and on....

You get one chance to bounce back, but after a year the massive reduction in payments it becomes so hard. Newcastle did it well, basically built a new team for the champ and villa are doing this season, takes balls, goo transfer strategy and a good manager!. We currently lack 2 of those, so getting back will be very difficult.

Coates wouldn't bank roll a big promotion push or fight to keep most the better players.
We would end up losing Shaq, Butland, maybe a couple of others but we would still be left with aging players, all on long contracts with premier league wages. It would be a disaster but also a very real possibility.
I mean how has the club after all these years gotthemselves into the position where we start a 37 year old cart horse up front, a man running in mud in central midfield and the likes of Cameron being one of the first names on the team sheet.
Top to bottom, fuck them all off.

Lets be realistic, nobody would come in for any of our defenders. They are simply not that good.
Midfield, someone would take Allen, Shaqiri, probably Ramadan. The rest are not desirable. Up front I can't see anyone being interested.

We'd want 10 million quid for each of them and they're all on big money. Allen and Shawcross prob 70k a week plus

Shawcross isn't that highly thought of outside of Stoke and to e honest he's been a carthorse for the most part this season. To be fair Diouf could potentially go abroad.

No chance, which is why I don't get how Hughes is still here. We will return to our average league placing over the years which is Championship/league 1. Still at least we got a 30000 seater stadium out of the ride.

We'd sell Butland, Allen and Shaq. They're the only 3 anyone else would want.
Without them, we've got a mid-table Championship squad at best.

Do PL footballers have relegation clauses written into their contracts that gives them the opportunity to leave or stay and take a pay cut?
