The last time he sacked a manager in the middle of the season.
Halcyon days.

Bates was a shocking appointment however said at the time and will say it again now if they had stuck with him they would have stayed up. Lots of people said "it can't get any worse" & "anyone else will do".
Of course he could have sacked Bates and replaced him with a decent manager.
However he didn't.
Like to think Coates had learned from that episode and is doing the groundwork in chasing a decent manager.
But is he?

We were constantly open to counter attacks, and people like Steve Tweed and Paul Stewart were regulars in key positions. I think appointing Kamara did the damage. When Alan Durban was caretaker the performances were better and more pragmatic (at least at home). If Durban had taken the reins after the Birmingham defeat then I think we could have stayed up, and been spared Kamara’s piss poor recruitment.

Remember what forced Coates hand 20 years ago though. 7-0 loss to Birmingham in January 98 and fans storming the pitch and the director's box after the match.
I am not saying that should happen again but that what it took last time for Coates to fire a manager mid season. I do hope that he has learnt and is more proactive now.

Be hard to be worse than Kamara however bad as we were we were two results off safety.
