The welsh wizard must be thinking "Ffs, if I still had a clue I'd have a job for life here"
Either that or Coates is double bluffing him so he resigns through stick from the supporters.
Failing that you can only assume if he's genuine in his feelings with all his marbles still in place then he & the board think going down won't be a bad option so we can start fielding the youngsters

How about we actually get behind the team, Coates and Mark Hughes. Negativity will not help but getting behind the team could. We are not the worst team in the league. It tells us we are the 15th worst. We have a transfer window where we may make some additions. If not, there are many games left to get out of where we are and then review at the end of the season

Blame Coates. How daft a statement is that? If it wasn't for Peter Coates with the support of his son and daughter taking over the club in May 2006, there would not be a Stoke City that you know today. Perhaps you'd like to see a resurrected Stoke Ramblers or AFC Stoke. Under the previous Icelandic owners despite some success the club was heading towards a major financial black hole. It was Peter Coates and his family that refinanced the club and the investment brought much need stability back to Stoke City. The current "problem" maybe the manager, bad coaching, poor player attitude, however I'm unsure that lack of board vision guided by Peter Coates is valid criticism. Perhaps the answer is a take over with fresh funds and ideas, but please don't lay the blame with Peter Coates, as history tells us a very different story. Actually, history does not tell us a different story. You obviously weren't part of the protest march way back over the Coates/Humphreys regime. Were you there against the bluenoses when the exec boxes were stormed with a snide comment from the grovelling Conroy about how naughty we were?. I did hope that when Coates came back to power we would never see a repeat. It could possibly happen no matter who is to blame!. I wasn't there for World War II either, however I have an opinion of what took place.

None of you know what Peter Coates is thinking, or have a clue what goes on behind the scenes. To blame Peter Coates is ridiculous. Bringing Pulis back turned out to be a masterstroke, as did bringing Hughes in - for the first three years at least. And the investment that's gone into improving the club in the past few years is superb. I still think Hughes has done enough in his time here to warrant more time, though I'm beginning to admit myself, that the way the game is these days - even with a very sensible chairman - his time looks to be running out. If it was 20 years ago nowhere near as many people would be talking about Hughes losing his job. If we can look as decent as we did last night in the next few games, while creating a few more clear cut chances, then Hughes has earned himself more time. ‘And the investment that's gone into improving the club in the past few years is superb’. That is so untrue. It’s the lack of investment over the last couple of years that’s resulted in the decline. Compared to all other Premier League clubs we are way behind. Even Bournemouth have invested more heavily on players. Yes Hughes has made some poor decisions re what money he’s had, but he’s been operating with a very low budget in Premier League terms. No one has come up with a viable alternative to Hughes the fans could unite behind. I said "the club", not the team.
