Obviously it depends on who gets the job, but how many of ours are fit for purpose? I see some very ordinary players in all honesty. Who does the poor sap build his side around?

Butland, Allen, Shaqiri and Diouf are probably the only ones who deserve to be starting at the moment.

TP will easily sort some of them out.
It is all about who has the stomach for the fight.
Ryan and Jack will be fine. I presume Geoff will find a place somewhere. Fletcher will be locked in the cage.
Of the rest, who knows. Allen too small, same with Shaq and Ibby. Pieters will now be well coached and could return to being solid defensively. I can see Mame at right wing. It will be interesting how Ramadan fairs with a proper team shape.
Crouchy will always have a place in the squad.
Anyone else worth keeping. I would imagine Berahino will be the first to go.

We'd need to spend 50m plus.
Does Coates give anyone that amount of money?
We needed to spend that this summer especially with the Arnie money in and didn't.
Big problems at this football club.

I think Coates will be very reluctant no matter who the new manager is to give them a warchest of that size needed.

Assuming the rumours are true.......good question For me Butland ( whilst we have him ), Shaq ( see previous comment ), Allen, Choupo, Diouf, Pieters ( no other realistic options ) and Crouch are the best bets as things stand. Obviously we would have to get the best out of Shawcross, BMI needs to heal, Ramadan needs to discover his initial promise and we could do with Cameron recovering as soon as possible. A better approach from all concerned is ultimately the best short term answer though, tbh.

I'm not convinced that a new manager needs to can loads of players, he just needs to understand what they can do.
Starting with 4 at the back would make an immediate difference.

And would need two new players, but I agree, we need a squad, we don't need to get rid just yet, we just need to sign some players for the glaring holes in the team, rb, cm and a winger after that I think the rest can be sorted in Jan.

Squad needs:
A right back A defensive midfielder with pace possibly a number 10 (can be done cheap, bring back boj)
I don't see much more that is needed. As long as we play a system that suits, we should be okay with that added to what we have.

That’s the sort of regressive, reductive thinking that means he shouldn’t be allowed within a 100 miles of our football club ever again.

Keepers: Butland(although he has been poor this season) Allen Shaq Shawcross Bruno
Think these are the only players we would possibly lose should we get relegated, probably not even Bruno or Shawcross.
We have a bang average squad, items required: 2 right-sided defenders(preferably young and with pace and power) 2 left-sided defenders(if Pieters does go in the window) Defensive mid with a bit of youth and vitality Some creativity and quality in the midfield A striker who knows where the net is A good manager A miracle

The main role of any manager is to get the best out of your personnel. That won't happen if your players are not fit enough and our players are no where near fit enough.

I detest Pulis but paying no attention to physical presence is as stupid as it being the be all and end all. Hughes has signed players on big club background and doesn’t seem to think physicality is even a factor that’s why we’ve got an old man and a midget in centre midfield. Power and strength are as much a valuable attribute as skill and technique.

You know any new manager is going to clear out half of these loanees we have, most of the midfield and build from scratch keeping a few key players and moving some to the bench or moving on starters for capital. It needs to be done even if we have to release players like Johnson, Imbula and Ireland and take a hit.

Even if the manager changed I very much doubt there would be much transfer activity in Jan. It’s not in the financial plan - unlike flirting with relegation apparently!
