Congratulations on ridding yourselves of the Toxic one, I remember the feelings of elation well I'm sure that you will understand that the elation felt by WBA fans has been tempered by the arrival of the dad dancing, self regarding Cock-a-nee. That I can certainly understand yes, as bad as he is tho, I'd rather him than Toxic every day of the week. Just the court case to get out of the way now, there's bound to be one...

It does feel a bit of out of the Frying Pan into the fire to me , I really struggle with Pardew. Despite his tactics TP seems to have left you with a solid squad with some decent players as he did here , shame he cant change his tactics

looking like he hasn't got the legs for it. Its no surprise our recruitment in centre midfield has been atrocious there just isn't a good combination there to be had. for a premier league side to be left with Allen, Fletcher, Cameron (needed in defence more often), Afellay & Adam is very poor. Afellay is poor?

I think this thread is very harsh on Fletch, overall and on balance he has been a force for good. This. Yes, if we're to progress we need better, but I could say that about most positions on the park. OS.

He started so brightly I really thought we had done the real deal, but he has faded a lot since the promising first games. Why this has happened I really don't know, but maybe playing every game in a midfield two at his age is taking the toll? I would at least have an option ready to replace him because he seems very slow and immobile when we play the better clubs, he actually reminds me a lot about Glenn in those games!

Play Zouma in midfield

That would certainly add some much needed physical presence and mobility to the heart of our team. I though Affelay and Allen were an improvement but am concerned its a very lightweight core.

Zouma is quick and very physical but his technical ability on the ball isn't good enough to play in midfield in my opinion.

Zouma is quick and very physical but his technical ability on the ball isn't good enough to play in midfield in my opinion. Its not ideal but its one of the only answers available to stop us being so lightweight in midfield the other option is the unfit Cameron who is technically no better maybe even worse and I don't mean weight in Charlie Adam terms I mean strength, athleticism, height and sheer physical presence. We've needed it since we lost N'Zonzi unfortunately Hughes doesn't sign that sort of midfielder.

He's just a name player, really been poor. Whelan was better. We still have no threat of goals from midfield.

He's just a name player, really been poor. Whelan was better. We still have no threat of goals from midfield. He's got one more than Whelan had got in the previous 4 or 5 seasons total. We can't afford to carry him which is what we have been doing for a few games now any more than we could continue to carry Glen. Its not a sentimental business when a player is over the hill its time to say goodbye not give him a 3 year contract and a big fat signing on fee.

We got rid of players past their best, then bring in a player past his best.

We got rid of players past their best, then bring in a player past his best. Because the people running the show are tight wads and try to do everything on the cheap.

My thoughts are....since DF came back from the internationals for Scotland he is a changed player and responsible for a lot of misery in the midfield! Prefer Adam or Afelay or even Cameron playing there!

Baggies fan I know told me his legs were going last season and that whilst he would be a big miss he wouldn't have been up to another season at this level week in week out. I was told exactly the same thing by a baggies fan

I never get why people obsess over Affellay. He is the definition of a crab, everything he plays is sideways and he slows us down even more.
Technically a tidy player but far from the answer. Plus heโs not exactly known for getting a foot in.

34 in February and less than a month younger than Whelan... About as much of a sideways signing as you can get and he's on a higher wage and a longer contract.

for a premier league side to be left with Allen, Fletcher, Cameron (needed in defence more often), Afellay & Adam is very poor. Incompetence springs to mind (not incontinence), he has been a good player but looks worse as time has gone on this season, he needs dropping but who do we bring in ? Kind of like a concentrated version of the Johnson situation being played over half a season rather than two seasons.

Fletcher has not got the legs to play the roll he has been given,he would need a younger version of Glen Whelan to cover for him.
