For all the whining and blaming, one of our biggest problems seems to be possession. Last night's match: we had 39% of the play, and that's average. We often fall below that, and not just to the 'top' teams. If we can't retain the ball (and at the moment, it looks like a bag of Ebola to half the players), is it any wonder that we're getting banjoed? And how about a bit of free kick commonsense too? If we accept that a free kick gives a distinct advantage, why play it to the man two yards away so often?

Afellay needs to play more as he's our only centre midfielder who can actually keep the ball

Strange one this, when Hughes first got here we regularly had well over 50% possession.......even away at Arsenal. Seems to me that we've moved away from the tica taca sort of style and are trying to be more direct. That not necessarily bad, but it relies on speedy counter attacking type football and, let's face it, we certainly aren't doing that with any great effectiveness.

Second lowest home possession in the division and with Pardew taking over at West Brom we'll soon be bottom.

We've been giving the ball away for the last eighteen months, if not longer!

I think it proves that Hughes never really knew how to get his team playing good football- he just had Nzonzi to make him look good
