Only if we perform to market value Anywhere beneath 13th would suggest underperforming and vice versa 😬

Only if we perform to market value Anywhere beneath 13th would suggest underperforming and vice versa 😬 You could also argue that the players we're paying that amount of money to aren't worth it and some of Watford and Burnley's are worth more, etc etc. It's normally a pretty accurate predictor of final league position though.

Not a cat in hells chance this sorry bunch will finish 13th , which suggests the well run myth is again exploding as the allegedly shrewd CEO is not only legged over by Daniel levy every time they meet but by the agents of free transfer , under performing , drug taking , injury recovering players as well .

Unfortunately Benjamin you're getting harder to argue with as the season progresses Just hoping for a silver lining at the end 😕👍

I think we'll finish 15th with Newcastle, Huddersfield, Brighton, Swansea and Bournemouth below us and within a couple of points of West Brom and Crystal Palace.

Hope that's the case because the only other viable option, at this point at least, suggests that the other option is lower and unsafe But who knows? We might end up in Europe! 😬

Best guess is somewhere between 11th and 15th for us but I'm going for the lower end of that because Shaqiri is currently key to us scoring goals and his injury record is quite poor. We'll probably buy a striker in January though.

You have to feel sorry for those Huddersfield players who only average around £1m a year.

Amazes me that we have a mid-to-low wage bill, are mid-to-low spenders, get mid-to-low attendances and revenues.... but a selection of our fans think that if we finish 13th, it's a disaster and we're under performing - like we should expect to consistently be 7th / 8th.
Wage bill is the best barometer for where a club is likely to finish - not an exact science, and there are always exceptions - but given that we have the 13th highest wage bill, why is 13th a poor season??

The biggest reason I can think of is that ten years in the league should mean we've made steady progress and are nailed on for the top half, a bit like Southampton or maybe even Everton before this shambles of a season for them?! It'd be interesting to know where we stood in the wage bill league in the three consecutive 9th place seasons. I'm assuming we "over performed" then? I'm happy with 13th, but only if we have a few stormers and the odd upset.

I'm happy with 13th, but only if we have a few stormers and the odd upset. I don't pay close attention to it but i'm pretty sure we've always been 'mid table' wages wise (maybe lower in the first season or two). I can see that last season we were 12th, and the season before 14th. Not sure before that. So yes, you would have to say that 3 x 9th place finishes were slight over-achievements when looking at it that way. Frustrating thing for me is that NO team consistently finishes 7th to 9th.... Villa did for a short while perhaps years ago, and Southampton are now the closest you would say - but at some point, every team who breaks into the top 9 eventually regresses. Outside the 'top 6' we're all scrambling to avoid being the shittest 3 - it's sad, but it's a reality. So it frustrates me that we have some fans who think we should consistently be up there, when a) nobody has ever done it previously, and b) our wages, spending, revenue screams mid-table. I just don't get it.
