Damn well hope so but I doubt it We haven;t ever been truly safe at the back the whole time we've marked zonally, it only work for us with a 5+ man defence and the majority of those 5 playing out of their boots. God knows I'm not Dave Kemp's biggest fan but he's out of a job right now and I would be so glad to see him back here till the end of the season as defensive coach.

Look at their first goal. 12 yards out Pieters is touch tight to Loftus-Cheek, 9 yards out and he's completely lost him. Truly shocking. 2nd goal's the same although it's all a bit of a mess with crosses coming this way and that. But the ball reaches Cabaye at the far post... where's Pieters? Cabaye's in acres of space.

One of the best defensive coaches around.

It's not a case of the system we are playing, it's a case of Sparky and his team instructing the team how to utilise it and communication within our defenders - eg. who's attacking the ball and who's going to mark the space.
Both of today's goals were a case in point. All 3 centre-halves attacked the ball whilst disregarding marking runs or the space to the far post - the centre half on that side seems to think it's the wing-backs job and vice-versa - surely that should be something that is made clear beforehand. It's hardly the first time that's happened this season either - how many times have we been caught out by opposition players making that late run to the far post?
What we need to do, in my opinion, is go back to a back 4 and pack the midfield - 5 at the back has been a disaster, we are leaking goals all over the place, plus adding another body to the midfield would make us much tougher for teams to press us and break us down.

I can’t stand Zonal marking ...we’ve looked dodgy at corners since we started doing it ....let’s face it an attacker running in for a header will win it every time as he can get up higher than our boys who are marking a Zone. We need to go back to defenders marking their man ....and a player on the goalpost !

Surely man marking gives strikers the run, as the defender has to react to the striker's movement? ] I'm fine with zonal marking, and we've generally looked better with it that man marking under Hughes. It's really not the issue.

I think we’ve looked more lightly to concede goals from corners since we started zonal marking, there just seems utter confusion in the box And key players allowed a free run IMO

I think you've nailed it right there. The problems seem, in the main, to be the left sided centre half and left wing back not really knowing who is doing what.

The goals yesterday had nothing to do with zonal marking. I think you’re searching for an excuse for disorganisation in open play.

We may concede the odd penalty when man marking, but we are leaking goals with this zonal shite. I cack mesen every time we concede a corner or a free kick around our box.

Other teams are still using the penalty area wrestling contest......it works! Problem is they were supposed to be outlawing it and Ryan was made an example of by I think Oliver . However other teams seem to get away with it
