Where can I get one of those ties? I've looked on the Stoke web site and can't see them for sale. I will try and find out where he got it from and let you know...

Not sure about his hands being big...but his head looks tiny! ....that’s just the camera angle ... His hands have been compared to saucepan lids And and shovels ... ...I was going to go ...but it would have meant missing the match on Wednesday...and that wasn’t happening .. So I sent my son Dan to keep an eye on him....I’m picking them up tomorrow..and if it all goes to plan ...we should even make the game ! As for the Stoke Tie ...he was under strict instructions not to wear any floral numbers or 80’s ties he has lurking in his wardrobe...so he pulled out the scfc one and got the Thumbs up ...very proud of him and I know he was honoured to be asked to take part ...goarrrrn dad! THIS s by far the Thread of The Year.... Just what we need to lift all the doom and gloom currently swashing about... If you do make the game tomorrow what an absolute HUGE SCFC roar yr Father deserves....

I am 57 years old and besides my family stuff my two most precious possessions are a signed football from the great man and a Pro Stars limited edition figurine of him. Going to make a massive effort to shake hands with the great man this season.

Watching the draw being made I was very proud when Gordon walked out onto the stage.
Along with Alan Hudson and Jimmy Greenhoff, Gordon is one of my all time favourite Stoke players, and I am old enough and lucky enough to have seen them week in week out playing for our beloved club. I always think he never got the proper recognition that he deserves, but maybe being revered by all Stoke fans is enough for such an unassuming man.
Sitting in my lounge watching the draw when I saw the Stoke City tie I actually clapped Gordon and there was perhaps a tiny, tiny tear crept out of the corner of my eye.
Great man, great player, great gesture ! A true Stoke City legend !

My brother recently met him at the Royal Stoke hospital when the great man was having treatment in the same room as my sister in law. My bro was humbled to be in the presence of such a legend and said that Gordon was such a down to earth, friendly guy and they chatted about SCFC and all things football for over an hour as if they had met several times before. Banksy had some interesting opinions on the England goalkeeping selection apparently!!!
A true legend of our club and a lesson to today's modern footballers, particularly the ones who only play 3 or 4 times a season and are happy to sit on their golden arses pocketing £40-£50K per week and have no time for the man in the street.

Isn't it weird that to a lot of us ..cough.. older supporters Banksy is a legend and always will be but to scfcrmagic he was simply her dad. I idolised him as a kid. I started insisting on playing in goals even though I was only 4 foot tall and much better outfield and I used to spend all my spare time practicing trying to dive like my hero. I wonder if Mrs magic had any idea at the time that there were hoardes of kids who hero worshipped 'her dad' and if she did was it slightly creepy? I've 'met' him several times as a kid but only once to talk to as an adult and he is a genuinely nice bloke. I met him and Harry Burrows (another of my early heroes) at a gentlemans evening (that dates it) at Uttoxeter Police Social Club of all places and after their piece got to talk to both of them which was fantastic although I must have come across as a gibbering idiot. The 10 year old boy resurfaced in me. Although I did resist the temptation to thrust my autograph book under their noses and ask them what their favourite colour was. I think he is massively under used by the club although he comes across as a very humble and quite shy chap so that may be his choice but this SCFC tie business has shown what a huge publicity draw the man still is even after all these years. PS still a national disgrace that he was never Knighted.

My old man was good at darts and cooking, no good at football no matter how hard he trued across longton park, what it like to have stoke and England’s greatest goalkeeper as your dad?

My old man was good at darts and cooking, no good at football no matter how hard he trued across longton park, what it like to have stoke and England’s greatest goalkeeper as your dad? A very hard question to answer ...he is dad to me and Grandad to my boys ....we Had a pretty normal childhood no airs and graces...local school etc....I was a bit of a tomboy and had a bit of fight before the boys would let me play football in break time..the only time it ever felt different was watching dad play at the Victoria ground. Dad used to get mobbed when he arrived and he would try and hang on to me, but when he started to sign autographs I often got jostled out the way ...we used to sit in a balcony that overhung the Boothen End, It has always made me proud to hear the crowd sing his name, we also used to have a knockabout with the players in the gym before the match as they warmed up ...but they were our dads ...so no different than at home.....We used to go on holiday with Tony Waddington and his family which seemed normal at the time ...but I realise now it wasn’t completely normal ..on the whole though we were pretty grounded I think. Dad was really honoured that FIFA asked him to be part of the draw in Russia...and they really made it a few special days for him and my son. .... Home was a very happy place ....dad has always had a great sense of humour and we laughed a lot ...you couldn’t take yourself too seriously ...not in our household.

Too young to of seen him play, I caught his dash down the wing in the last game at the vic, I played like many on a Sunday morning at youth and men’s as a goalkeeper. I don’t have many memories of watching football with family exept perhaps on my stepmoms side growing up. Watching a vhs of 1972 with my grandad, ( excuse me if I get this wrong) but very late on Gordon coming flying of his line to rescue a hospital ball from John Mahoney, like an absolute train he must of seemed like a giant bearing down. He along with the early schmeichal is why I played in goal, the mans an absolute god and a legend... an he could fly too !

Mike Bernard back pass , Chris Garland running in , Gordon saved the day , for those of us at Hillsboro it would simply have been too much to bear for lightening to strike twice , the ultimate when time stood still moment , Don't forget we were only there that day Courtesy of an unbelievable last minute penalty save st Upton Park . ps I saw John Mahoney today looking good

He was back watching the Potters this afternoon👍 He was ...due to meticulous planning ....which went along the lines of dad ....”You are picking us up from the airport, aren’t you” .... Me....’erm You do know that Stoke are playing at home? What time does the flight get in ?” Dad ...”12.35-1pm.”... Me...” okay then....we should just about make it to the Bet 365 for the game if there are no hold ups on the M6. I can drop you off at home after the match” Dad ...” sounds like a plan” Me ...to my son “ you’re going to the match after I collect you from the airport....if you don’t want to go...best organise a taxi from the Bet 365..” my parenting skills at their best methinks !

I'm not sure I agree with you on that point, while I was a just young school boy in his later days with us I do remember him pretty much universally being regarded and referred to as the 'best goal keeper in the world'. There was only Lev Yashin of Russia considered fit to give him a run for his money. That's not too shabby is it ?!

It's widely believed, with good reason, the 1970 squad was stronger than the 1966 one. After the Leon disaster Alf invited some journalists to share a bottle of champagne with him. This was odd in itself as Alf seemed to carry an innate distrust of the press. He repeated ruefully how the only person in the squad who got the food poisoning was the only one who couldn't be replaced. If anyone else had got an injury or illness the squad could compensate, and four years of meticulous preparation had left us in a very strong position. But the one who got ill had to be Gordon Banks.
Since then rumours have circulated saying he was deliberately poisoned. Although one of the team doctors said Banks had quietly told him that the day before the illness he'd put ice cubes in a drink and that's what might well have done him in.

My Brazilian mate, living in Chile, sent me a message about this when the draw was on (I wasn’t watching).. he said “who’s this old guy from Stoke doing the World Cup draw?” I explained it was Gordon Banks, the goalkeeper who saved that Pele header, and he said “aaaah I didn’t recognise him - the greatest goalkeeper of all time!”

Resonates with me.Of all the things in my home, one of the few things I'd bust a gut to save in the event of flooding would be a 'keeper's shirt signed by the great man and an autographed print of his penalty save from Hurst. Met,and shook hands with the legend a few years ago, went home walking on air joking that I'd just saved from Pele at a couple of removes..... Great person and truly humble man.

There's also that great anecdote of Pele's too: "I've scored over a 1000 goals, won World Cups,Personal honours etc. But when I come to Britain, people only want to ask me about that save...."

I had the honour and pleasure of having lunch with the great man yesterday... always smiling, always willing to share anecdotes and tales of years gone-by and also of his admiration for the people he met on Friday in Russia.
Humble speakings of Sir Alf, Bobby Moore, Nobby Stiles, Sir Geoff and many, many more. He also thinks our Jack will definitely be No 1 for the World Cup!!
He was very proud to wear our club tie at the World Cup draw, as was I watching him. Banks of England, Banks of Stoke, the man who could fly... what a great man he truly is.
