I used to love the Likely Lads and the follow up Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads.
Bob (Rodney) was so correct in everything he did compared to Terry's (James Bolam) more jack the lad character.
I read some years ago that they never spoke and Bolam really disliked Rodney Bewes for some reason.
Sadly it's too late for them to put it right now.
RIP

RIP Apparently Rodney revealed in an interview that James's wife, Jameson, was pregnant before it was common news. Never forgave him and this prevented reruns of the series in some outlets depriving Bewes of an income

Whatever Happened to the Likley Lads is my favourite ever sit-com - sad that it never got repeated on mainstream telly so that other generations could appreciate how good it was. RIP Rodney - a fine actor.

Didn't appear in much more (though was in Billy Liar film) but played a great part. Was from Bingley, West Yorkshire, next town to me.

Whatever you hear about that whole situation Bolam always sounds like a bit of a git. Yes a great pity they didn't get on because they were both fine actors. The Likely Lads and its successor series were my favourite sitcoms of my younger days. Most of us at that time had a mate who was just like one or other of the characters - polar opposites yet with a bond which somehow worked. I think it was years ahead of its time and probably inspired many of the sitcoms which followed in later years. Bolam went on to be a great actor with a CV containing a lot of classic work- I do wish that Bewes had gone on to similar success. RIP Rodney.

RIP the episode of the likely lads where they try to avoid finding out the England score but see a sign saying “ England F...” is one of my favourite sit com memories. Hopefully the BBC will screen it as a tribute to him.

Always enjoy watching the episode where Terry finds out Bob's middle name at the reading of the wedding bans Robert Andrew Scarborough Ferris.

Genuinely gutted by this news. As I said earlier in the week to Dutch, The Likely Lads was my favourite sitcom ever. Also a mate used to call me Bewesy because I had chubby cheeks like Rodney!
So many great episodes like the one where Bob gets done for drink driving, and the one where Bob is in hospital with a broken leg. Even the film was good, which is rare when sitcoms go to the big screen.
As someone said earlier, Rodney didn't seem to do much else, but I remember him in Spring And Port Wine with James Mason(part of our English literature studies at school).
Rest In Peace, Rodney.

The Xmas 1974 Christmas special is very funny. Bob and Terry pinch a forklift Whilst pissed, so Terry could forklift Bob back up to his bedroom (Thelma had locked Bob out). The Film is funny too, a rare example of a spin off film that was as good as the series.

Whatever happened to the Likely Lads was essential viewing in our house as a youngster.
The theme tune was great as were the characters.
RIP Mr Bewes.

Rod can do a remake of the likely lads and have Dave Cassidy playing Terry.

James Bolam what a twat, oooo big deal one slip of the tongue about something so daft and he ignores him for over 40 years, and prevents Bewes from getting any money, actually fucking arsehole springs to mind. Shame but there is always one as they say

James Bolam is now saying there was no ill feeling with Rodney Bewes, they just "lost touch" and didn't speak (for almost 40 years) as they moved on to other acting roles. He apparently only has fond memories of working with Rodney.
Sounds like bullshit to me, and Bolam is trying to deflect any criticism away from himself now Rodney Bewes can't reply.
