Any word on which finger it is? If it's the thumb, that's really shitty for a goalkeeper. Breaking the 4th finger or pinky finger is much less of a problem. There are gymnasts who have won medals on bars with broken 4th or pinky fingers.

Gutted for him....he must be really disappointed....breaking fingers is part of the life of a goalkeeper...dad broke all his ...more than once. Fortunately we have Lee Grant to step into the breach ...he was a hero last season .

No stats produced on here from the BBC yesterday , bottom two Pickford and Butland So do you genuinely believe he is the second worst keeper in the Premier League? Just answer the question for once.

I cant believe there's not some sort of extra padding or something that can be implanted into gloves that will help. It must be a common injury for goalkeepers. Because I'd broken and strained ligaments in fingers so many times I ended up wearing 'fingersave' gloves which helped. They had a pice of plastic down each finger which acted like a splint. It worked but it made it hard to make a fist so it was difficult to punch. I'm sure a lad with his money could have some bespoke gloves made with some support built in to the affected finger and sew the gloves fingers together to give added support. Plenty of Ibuprofen used to get me through.

Mark and his team hope Jack will only miss 3 games. 'only miss 3 games' ?! I guess that means 3 Stoke games and does not count the England ones? If so that would mean out for Brighton, Palace and Liverpool and not back until Swansea in December ??

I'm sure a lad with his money could have some bespoke gloves made with some support built in to the affected finger and sew the gloves fingers together to give added support. Plenty of Ibuprofen used to get me through. Adidas Finger Save gloves were crap. You had no feel of the ball at all in those. I was difficult to anything remotely useful in those gloves, let alone punching the ball. The original finger save gloves were the worst of all. The second/third generation ones, made popular by Edwin Van Der Saar (Black with white plastic protection on the outside of the glove) were marginally better because they at least had a bit of flexibility to them. I strayed away from Reusch gloves to have finger saves and was digging out my old gloves at half time of my very first game in them. God forsaken things. As for Jack and his money, do you really think he buys gloves? He clearly has a deal with Nike to wear their brand and as it happens, when he played with a broken finger v Norwich a few seasons ago, he had the part of his glove covering the damaged finger re-inforced to protect the damaged bone. He then produced, arguably, his finest display in a Stoke City shirt to date.

Do you think this means he'll stay in January? He hasn't been playing at his best, and the injury will keep him out until at least December, so there might not be that much interest for him in January.

Swansea at home best case scenario

This is not good because now we have no back-up. The only thing worse would be an injury to Crouch (I’m serious), because he’s the most reliable striker we have. Fortunately, he’s an odd physical specimen. He eats as much as he wants, never puts on weight and is in the same shape he was 15 years ago. He also rarely gets hurt. I can’t remember him ever having a serious injury.

He's not done much that Grant can't do so far this season! That's true, I suppose the question is can Grant do it again? He is coming up 35 in January, can he throw back the shadows one last time?

Yes, hopefully, I'm not sure why Jack seems to be falling to bits at 24 though! Does this mean Jittery Jakob will be on the bench then? He asked himself nervously?! I have a vague memory of him covering for Grant last time and almost any half hit effort on target from the opposition ending up in the back of our net, it must have been soul destroying for our back line at the time!

Bad news but the problem's not Granty, the problem is we're a knock away from some full on Haugaard Havoc! Yeah- Grant should be fine. But (and I don't want to be unfair), every game where Haugaard figures is a guaranteed defeat. So no red cards or niggles please, football gods!
