As I understand zonal marking (and maybe I’m missing something because otherwise it doesn’t make sense) - 1. How do you defend ‘your’ zone if 3 players run into it simultaneously? and 2. How do you defend against someone running onto (and jumping onto) a ball that only the attacking team knows where it’s intended to be (assuming they’ve practised attacking zonal defenders)? Is it my misunderstanding or is it just bollocks? No perfect solution. Three simultaneous runners is an issue for man marking too. You'd have to have three defenders outside the box tracking/wrestling runners, and defending whilst running towards yer own goal is crap. Mahrez is great at delivering a ball, that'll always be a factor whatever set up. Not all corners are big bombs into the box.

We defend set pieces far better this year with zonal marking than we did with man marking at any point under Hughes. Zonal is fine, you attack the ball if it's in your zone, you don't react to a player's movement, you are proactive in seeking the ball.

Zonal or man marking systems are only as good as the defenders operating them. We used to concede loads when we man marked, a fact conveniently forgotten by many on here. Teams will always be vulnerable from corners regardless of which system is used, and if anyone thinks that all we have to do is switch systems and we will never concede from a corner again then they are delusional.
