I mean which is the closest, because the squad doesn't suit ANY system perfectly?
What we are doing isn't working, so where do we go from here? We need at least a couple of wins from the next 4 games or we are really in the shit. How do we set up so we are getting the most out of our players?

Butland
Edwards Zouma Bruno Pieters
Shaq Allen Cameron Sobhi
Berahino Diouf
442 or 4411
We need to get rid of the wing backs until we buy some, keep diouf up front and give a team (injuries allowing) a minimum of 5 games and see how they do.

It would make sense to play a system which suits the skills of our players.
Our best wing back(probably our only wing back) is our best striker.
We should not be playing a back 3, especially with Geoff cameron on the left side. Pieters is OK as a defensive LB. He is not OK as LWB.
We do have the players to play 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-1-1 (march will like that).
Hughes will almost certainly go 3-4-3 next week.

But it was the 4231 system we have employed over the last season and a half which led to the four goal beatings (the most worrying being the 4-1 against Palace and the first 45 minutes at White Hart Lane when we looked like we would concede every time the opposition came forward.)
So you can understand the switch to a back 3 (5).
And l'm coming to the view that we need three in central midfield.
Which suggests that we should maybe be looking at 532. That would be solid but desperately short of width. In a possible relegation scrap is it fair to rely on our two 18 year old back up full backs?
Trying to find some comfort from our first half display against Southampton (somehow forgotten in our recent wrist slashing) and our second half last weekend, we've 29 games to find something that works.

We had a whole pre season and a season before that too. Yet here we are.

Close to our best XI, but I'd tweak it to play 4-2-3-1 right now, with Diouf up front and Choupo joining Shaq and Ramadan behind him - Saido has simply not done enough to deserve a start and must show some impact off the bench, for me, to warrant consideration again. If we can get Jese's head right and body 90 minutes fit, he showed enough on Saturday that he could compete with Ramadan for the left hand side of that attacking threesome. A fully fit Ryan would allow Zoom to move to right back, as it may be a big ask for young Tom to play week in, week out in a struggling team - it is a time for a bit more experience.
