Depends on what is classed as a "dive". I agree that players should go down if they feel they've been fouled to force the referee to make a decision.

But how many times will it get confused with players going down when they feel there's been contact and the referee has called it a dive. It's tough.

One sign is if a player goes down without contact and appeals for a free kick/penalty.

I think if it's clearly obvious there's no contact and by how the players arguing for the decision then it should result in a suspension. I still think players will go down either way, but then they just won't call for the refs decision.

The onus is on the referees to start giving genuine fouls when players try to stay on their feet and be honest.
If players are regularly rewarded for their attempts to stay on honest then we *might* just see a shift in sands over a longer period of time and it will then become easier to spot.
There is also an onus on the ex professional club to stop trotting out the "he deserves to go down because there was a slight touch" line.

Imagine the outcry from 'the simple one' or 'the Arse' if it happened to one of their players? It won't happen but I hope I'm wrong

The test of this review system is when a big name player is suspended.

I dislike diving as much as the next man, but these new rules make no sense to me.
Basically, if you dive and the referee spots it at the time then you get booked. If the referee waves play on you get no punishment at all. But if the referee buys it and gives a foul in your favour you get a two match ban.
That’s three completely different outcomes from exactly the same offence, all of which are legitimate under the new rules?
Bizarre.

This rule can be applied even if there was contact. Plenty of players deliberately throw themselves at a defender to make that contact and it's not difficult to see what he's done in video replay footage. For me that's just as bad as diving when there's no contact.
OS.
