Ah, the Carousel waltz just before the Tunnel of love. Tunnel of love, Romeo and Juliet, Skate Away on one side of vinyl practically perfect in every way.

Not a really a fan of Dire Straits at all tbh,but Mark Knopfler,(along with Gilmour,)has just about the most tasteful playing style going. The solo on 'Tunnel...' is near perfection.I love the way his solo's fit the songs so well, immaculate phrasing.

One of my top 5 all time faves, though after Money For Nothing with Sting lost interest in them TBH.

I bought their first album before they became well known (i.e. Before Sultans of Swing was released as a single). Consequently, I was into them first out of everyone I knew and kind of 'owned' them from then on. 'Tis the way of things with teenagers and band affiliations.
Still have a soft spot for them nearly forty years later. Waggy does not know WTF he's talking about.

Despite falling out of love a bit with them when they became MTV stars, their debut album remains one of my favourites of all time and this track is one of the lesser known but possibly the best in my eyes, from that masterpiece of it's time

'Where do you think you're going?' from Communique (second album) is my favourite. I was pretty gobsmacked listening to Ian Beefy Botham on Desert Island Discs, when he had it played as his all-time favourite track from his favourite album. Never thought I'd have a connection with the great man.

I think it's all relative when you start to consider some useless, talentless, auto-tuned fucker like Drake...
Completely devoid of anything that resembles musical ability.

Yeah you're absolutely right of course but like Linx says above, when you're young and you find a new act, the musical snobbery kicks in and you feel like you own the band and don't want them to sell out or change in any way. Anyway, Knopfler is a genius and I'm sure it was someone else on here who posted this video some years ago and the images have haunted me ever since. OK, I was a Potter not a ship builder but anyone who mourns the decline of this nations proud industrial heritage can't fail to be a little moist of eye at this poignant song of Knopfler's, painted over video of one of the worlds biggest ship graveyards

The collaboration with Chris Rea was good, though they could have come up with a better name for the band than Chris Straits.

"Bloody loud, me bloody 'ed 'urts" Telegraph Road live from the 'Alchemy' album, and Private Investigations played very loud on a top notch hi-fi system are my two favourites. But this track (from my 'Twisting By The Pool' EP has always entertained me and brought a smile to my face. Badges Posters Stickers and T-Shirts
