He hasn't been a bad player. Loved how he seemed to control games without seeming to move. Also he had that stylish thing going on. Cool as fuck.

He was brilliant :-)
He realised you can't run with the ball, as fast as you can pass it.
He made the ball do all the work and he was outstanding at it

Quite possibly the most gifted midfielder in the world on his day which was pretty much every time he played!
Reminded me very much of our own Alan Hudson. He didn't need to run around to make things happen, he let the ball do the talking and could make precision pass after precision pass all day long. I don't think I have ever seen Pirlo sprint more than 18 yards in his whole career hence why he is still going at 38. He could probably still walk into most Premiership teams today!

His Panenka penalty against Hart in the 2012 Euros won them that shoot out.
The man is total quality.

New York City's midfield will have taken a battering in the last two years losing Pirlo and Lampard.

LMH please sign him in January for a half season contract. Like Manure did with Henrik Larsson. If Saido can't score with two Pirlos on the pitch...

Similar to Hudson yes. Also from a similar vintage.... Asa Hartford.

Were there just other players earlier in his career who were much better or did he just improve dramatically as he got older. Up until he was 28/29 he wasn't really rated all that highly. Well perhaps even later, because Milan let him go to Juventus on a free didn't they? Strange that the recognition came so late in his career.

Wasn’t that around when Milan had Kaká and Ronaldinho and the like a little galacticos thing going on and Pirlo was just seemed surplus?

Another one of the old boys, who was there in the 90's when football still had some organic roots.
