Get to the top of the bottom half and then fiddle with things a bit - but never lose sight of that defensive priority. That would seem to be a decent formula if you are not one of the 'elite'. Sean Dyche might or might not be any good at the fiddly bits if Burnley establish themselves this season as seems likely but if his defensive systems are still working then it won't really matter. There's got to be room for a bit of flair and pizzazz and risk taking somewhere though? Yep in front of the well organised defence you have treated as a priority as it's the only thing that will give you scope for pizzazz! I think this message sunk in a little bit at our place last year when the defence started to give some worries - and we've moved to address aspects of it. The jury is out on Dyche but I reckon he has , at least, the scope to emulate the likes of Big Sam which isn't to be scoffed at.

There you had the solid defence but the Okochas and Djorkaeffs as well.

So did half of the Championship probably. So he has been backed then. Anyway I think he is a good manager but I probably wouldn't want him at Stoke. He wasn't the season before and they've spent what they got in. I don't think that's being backed. And yes the same goes for Hughes. I think what we spent in the summer was very poor. How we spent it is becoming more and more debatable.

Ancelotti will go Milan unless somebody sticks a finger in the air and says "name you're own salary"

Everton have no chance of getting him. I dunno, if he leaves his goalkeeping coach job at Oldham then it could be on the cards. Just had a look at his record and from 2007-2014 he only made 12 appearances for 4 different clubs, 10 of those for us. That's a lot of wages for very little service, that save against Leicester was a corker though. You didn't get where you are today by getting your footballers mixed up.

Big fan of the draft/Franchise system in US sports myself but obviously that is not compatible with 150 years of Footy history I agree the draft franchise has got merit trouble is becomes a closed shop It would never work in this country as we have history and culture Absoloutely agreed wag

Anceloti being available must be making a few managers arses squeak somewhat. Maybe he''s Smurthwaites master stroke No, he's actually asked his Auntie Lottie to take the helm.

They spunked their Lukaku money worse than Tottenham spunked their Bale money and that takes some doing. Koeman has royally fucked it up and shouldn't moan if he does get sacked.

The NFL is the nearest thing major league sport does to this. Sadly in football there is neither the desire or ability to introduce an equitable system. That's because there's a strictly enforced salary cap (same for all teams) and the TV money is distributed evenly amongst all the teams. There's also an annual draft in which the lowest ranked teams get first pick of the college players. The free agency system is strictly enforced so there's very little poaching of players. There's no promotion or relegation which encourages long-term planning. There's also an independent commissioner that oversees the owners to try and ensure they play by the rules. Compared with the NFL, the FA and the PL are the Wild West. This system makes it hard but not impossible for a team to establish a dynasty. The New England Patriots were the top team for several years (but were helped by a crooked coach and cheating quarter back - see "deflategate"). It warmed my heart to see the cheating patriots lose at home to the KC Chiefs who are now 3-0. The draft system seems a good system to"balance" teams Ku, but why can't my team, the Browns win anything?

Dyche has built a team, while Koeman has collected talented players -a lot like Hughes.

Dyche is an absolutely cracking manager. Is he not a bit Pulisian for your tastes? Snigger GD

Everton's main problem today was that Rooney was not on the pitch to referee the game.

Jagielka in any back 4 is scary at his form and age, but never worry they have a killer midfield of Rooney, and Sigurdsson!

Second half Dyche did what stoke fans criticise toxix and Hughes for.Total control first half, defended second half, a bit lucky they got away with it.

You have to give Burnley some credit also today because they’ve been solid again defensively.Having played Chelsea,Tottenham,Liverpool and now Everton in away games and remained unbeaten is a very good achievement for me Unreal..especially when you consider they had one of the worst away records in the division last season. God knows what's changed. Signing Jack Cork in the summer and getting Steven Defour fully match-fit (he could only last 60 mins last sason).

Unreal..especially when you consider they had one of the worst away records in the division last season. God knows what's changed. Will be interesting to see what happens with their home form. Sometimes when teams resolve to address away performances there's a trade off and home form suffers. Happened to us a bit in our second season back up. Home results will not be as good as last season - most opposing managers now realise Burnley are less effective the more they have the ball - West Brom and Huddersfield both sat back and kept clean sheets.
