Just been reading for the second week running we are bottom of the distance covered by premiership sides by some margin covering 64 km.
Most teams ran around 7 km more as a team.
Bodes the question are we fit enough or lazy?

I suppose its relevant to the possession stats as well. Having said that, I think we haven't been as sharp or as fit under Hughes. Maybe its the style of play, the type of player we have or possibly player attitude. If it s the latter then that brings us back to the manager question.

Depends really. A lot of teams play the HCP (the headless chicken press). Those teams are usually fucked come the turn of the year. I prefer to just judge each game and how it went.

I wouldn't say we've looked unfit or lazy.
Surprising stats though.

I read an article that said Hughes was terrible at training as a player.
Maybe he feels that players shouldn't be pushed too hard in training and should be judged on what they do on match day?
Probably suits some players but not others.

I'd like to see all the stats and longer term too to try and make some sense of it though.

Did I read on here that it was agreed that we look fitter and sharper than the same time last season.Beggars belief how things change so quick on here.

I read an article that said Hughes was terrible at training as a player. Maybe he feels that players shouldn't be pushed too hard in training and should be judged on what they do on match day? Probably suits some players but not others. Could also be that he was such a naturally talented player that he didn't need to train as much. Also some people build muscle and aerobic capacity more easily than others. They can train less than others for the same biological results because of how their bodies are. Lucky fuckers. Perhaps Hughes is one of those. He certainly had unusually strong leg muscles. One more thought. Maybe Stoke players don't dope. I'm sure it's rife in football but some clubs have more integrity than others and don't hire shady doctors, and they conduct their own internal testing since official testing is really lacking in the sport.

He's probably bringing up the team average in any case.

We play with our brains these days. Look at Glen Johnson. He's must be the cleverest footballer in the league getting a contract with his old legs.

Lies, Damn Lies & Statistics !
There`s only one stat that matters in football and it involves scoring at least one more goal than the team you`re playing against !

Johan Cruyff never saw the point of training and avoided it like the plague. He was famous for hiding behind a tree puffing on a fag while his team mates went for a run. Of course, he was genius and could get away with it. Lesser mortals need to word 'aaard.
