We've regressed to being a fucking charity case again.
Gifts left, right and centre today.
Fucking laughable.

Thought we actually played well today, apart from the three spectacular brainfarts that gifted them their 3 goals from their first 3 shots.
When their third goal went in, the shot count was 13-3 in Stoke's favour. Truly unbelievable.
Chelsea will say they had other gears they never needed and they were happy to play within themselves. But, that said, can't remember when we carried so much of the threat over the course of a game against a top team.

Same old story, we offer very little threat up front while our best striker flogs his guts out at right back.

We can't make elementary errors against a top side other than that some good performances despite.the score .
One problem is the lack of players getting forward and signing of players who just don't fit Jese being the latest nice finish vs Arse but nothing else .

On the balance of play we actually played quite well

True - he had more to do than Butland though (apart from getting the ball from the net on 4 occasions). He could have read a book for long periods. The ridiculous nature of the goals overshadow everything - but I find it hard to have a real go at them today.

We've regressed to being a fucking charity case again. Gifts left, right and centre today. Fucking laughable. Thought we played well, but we were undone by two mistakes that Chelsea were clinical in punishing. We were denied a nailed-on penalty, and created more chances that we have for a good while. Diouf, Choupo, Fletcher and Allen all had decent chances that they failed to get on target. Shaq was fantastic throughout, both going forward and in terms of work rate and tracking back. The third and fourth goals late on were just a smack in the face after suffering another injury and having given Chelsea a very good game. With that said, Johnson is beyond help and shouldn't be anywhere near the squad, never mind the first team, and not bringing Souttar on for BMI was bizarre given the circumstances. Not a bad effort at all. On to the next.

A fair few good individual performances I thought. Didn't amount to much because our failings were in crucial areas of the pitch. 4-0 worries me not a jot as long as we get the job done next week and are not making weak excuses about injuries or being unlucky this time next Sat.

So reading this thread: -
* we never tested the opposition keeper * we gifted them 3 goals
** but we played some decent footy in the middle of the pitch to absolutely no effect
On the basis of the above, we're relatively happy?
We've become Arsenal fans.

The majority of the players did well. Hughes is the problem. Zouma was ineligible, Wimmer, Shawcross and Cameron were injured what options did he have? He had the option to sort out his full back options in the summer. He has had no end of chances to sort out our striking options. He has had numerous transfer windows to give us an effective midfield partnership. He has had plenty of time to turn us into a better side with the money at his disposal, but the majority of his big money signings have either been fucked off, sent out on loan or are warming our bench. In short it goes a lot deeper than today's performance or result, but Hughes is progressively turning us into a shambles of a team.

We've become Arsenal fans. We had one fit centre half and were playing the Champions, who had about £100m of talent on their bench alone. What were you expecting, a battling draw? We have it a go and played some decent stuff for spells until our one centre half had to go off and our resistance finally gave out. All things considered it could've been miles worse.

Obviously they were far more clinical, but any idea of them dictating play, controlling the game or playing within themselves is a nonsense. But fuck it's frustrating seeing some of our passages of play not quite coming together with the rewards it 'deserved'. Nowt left today other than getting pissed. Boooooo.

Yep - I agree, I don't actually think they were playing within themselves to any great degree - but that's the spin that can be put on it. Managers are fond of calling it *professional* when a game unfolds like that. I actually saw the BBC report describe it as a "dominant" performance from them, which I found a bit laughable. But most people will see the 0-4 and won't want to delve much deeper

It said that some people fucked off early because the game was lost, no more, no less. Today has to be viewed in the context of having one fit centre half against the Champions. To still be in the game after 75 mins and play some decent stuff in that context isn't something to whinge about in my opinion. We've played worse and won.
