Butland 3 from 5 Zouma, Ryan, Martins Indi, Wimmer, Cameron Fletcher Allen I wouldn't swop that for any other teams set up in the Prem with only Chelsea and Tottenham to consider as being stronger.Far better than Liverpool, Man City,Arsenal and as good as Man Utd based on their performance against us last weekend. If we stay reasonably clear of injuries then we will finish in the top 10 this season.

Our selection of CBs is easily worthy of a very good Europa league side, and our keeper is Champions League quality - however, you are omitting the wing-backs which are still an integral part of a defensive side and probably our biggest weakness at the moment
A quality pair of wing-backs and our defense would rival any in the league imo

The reason why I was never worried about relegation, that defence will see us avoid trouble with ease.

The only centre backs I'd have out of the Premier League instead of ours are Vertonghen, Alderweiereld (sp) and Kompany. We're so strong at centre back.
Midfielders though is a different kettle of fish. I think Fletcher would get into only half of the teams in the league. Allen less.

Spurs are the only one for me. I think Chelsea too, mainly due to Azpilucueta and Alonso i think they are class in a back 5, so is Luiz, hes a clown in a back 4 mind.

Even less chance with Everton either. West Ham's midfield maybe. Leicester's possibly now Drinkwater has left.

Defenders are a dying at in the Premier League (and in Europe by the looks of the amount of goals scored in Champions League). Not seen enough of Wimmer yet but Zouma & Butland are up there with best in the league Shawcross & BMI could play in a top 6 side Cameron is excellent back-up Wingbacks are well below average Midfield is average Front 3 plus Ramadan is back-up is probably best for any team outside the top 6 So you could say Defence - 3rd best in league (behind Spurs & Chelsea) Midfield plus Wingbacks - 10th-15h best in league Attack - 6th to 9th So on average on paper we should finish 7th this season

We still have a fantastic bunch of CBs and even better full backs now.
It makes the hash of a job Lambert is doing even more galling.

Makes the regular 4/5/7 goal hammerings under Hughes seem even more ridiculous.
He's the bloke who fucked us, not Lambert

I felt the same as all the original posters at the time. Had gone from wanting Hughes gone at the end of 16/17 to thinking we had turned a corner and having my faith totally restored. It’s galling to think about now, under slightly different circumstances this season could’ve been a great one. Fine lines.
