Just chatting to my old fella on skype, he lives on Meir Park, just by the Pub, he reckons he could hear us cheer on Sat when we scored against Man Utd. Is this so, what is the furthest anyone reckons the noise would travel...

Weird how the noise travels. Been right outside and heard nothing. When we were at the Vic came out of my house in Penkhull (West Avenue) and one time the crowd was loud as anything.
When I lived in Wolstanton could occasionally hear Vale Park crowd.

When I lived in Wolstanton could occasionally hear Vale Park crowd. the vic was quite open in the 70s and noise could travel well if the wind was in the right direction. The roofs at the bet365 must hold the noise in and bounce it back down towards the ground a bit, but with a good westerly wind send it down towards Meir.

Despite living on the doorstep so to speak I couldn't hear the Boothen when we scored the first goal because I scared the dogs screaming my tits off.
It's quite a unique experience watching the game on telly with the actual sound booming right in through the conservatory if I could just persuade the wife to put a pair of hot pants on and parade the time of the goals that would really add to the flavour.

A work colleague told me he could hear Stoke fans at Vale park, outside his home on the lower reaches of Mow Cop. I've heard The Brittannia roar outside the Marquis of Granby Penkhull.

You say the hill's too steep to climb Climb it. You say you'd like to see me try Climbing.
You pick the place and I'll choose the time And I'll climb That hill in my own way. Just wait a while for the right day. And as I rise above the tree lines and the clouds I look down, hearing the sound of the things you've said today.
Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd Smiling. Merciless the magistrate turns 'round Frowning.
And who's the fool who wears the crown? And go down, in your own way And every day is the right day And as you rise above the fear-lines in his brow You look down, hearing the sound of the faces in the crowd.

I was playing cricket against Fenton a few (10) years ago and we got a wicket as Stoke scored. The cheer was that loud, the Fenton batsmen just lifted his head and completely forgot where he was!!
He said he had played there for 5 years and never heard anything like it.

I used to live on Lightwood Road up by the Tavern and you could see and hear the ground from my patio if the wind was in the right direction.

When we first came up to the Prem, my mum heard the crowd from Clayton. But I think the game was when we won against Arsenal in that first season up in 2008 so thats understandable

Health and safety wouldn't allow that nowadays... The led zep gig was deffo early seventies, but I can't find any reference to it on tinterweb, and I'm now questioning my primitive memory! Not for the first time though mate
