I think anyone who thinks Peter Coates (for any of his faults) is 'everything that's currently wrong with English football' is perhaps one of the biggest penises ever to draw breath.

I'm afraid Peter did not come across well at all. Everyone can see the issue with only stopping buying and not selling yet he refused to listen properly or acknowledge

I've listened to the interview.
I don't agree PC was "grilled" just some numb-skulls asking the dame questions over and over.
I'm with PC I can't see any problem, if a club want to sell after the buying period is over that is up to them, it's their look-out.
As for the repeated assertion about players being unsettled by offers from foreign clubs after our buying period is shut. I couldn't care less; it's about time players were made to hinour the contracts they and their agents have signed. Nowadays it seems signing a contract means nothing to some people.

He does sound in an arsey mood in that interview but he's spot on at the end.
We can't tell other FA's what to do and if we did try to implement the no selling that would effectively change other FA's window deadlines. Then all around the world on different season timescales could close their windows before ours open and you'd have chaos.
They can govern their own league by saying you can't buy anyone after a certain date but you can't tell the rest of the world when they can buy players.
I do think that most european countries will follow in suit though and close before the season starts.

Funny how people think he is pompous and high handed when he is the son of a miner from Stoke who fought in WW1 and he himself left school at 14 and joined the services before working at the Wimpy.
I mean we laugh at Garth Crooks prodigious rise up the social ladder but I reckon old Coatesy has outdone him comfortably!

14 clubs voted for, 5 against and 1 abstained...
I'd wager that it was the big clubs that were twitchier than the rest about having their top, top assets unsettled/signed after our transfer window closes, and therefore voted against any change....
Fuck em, I say

Fixed term contracts exist in other walks of life. I don't believe people sign them without exit clauses(penalties). We have been this closed season quoted as being very inflexible ref inserting such clauses into players contracts. I really can't see why the club, yourself or anybody else think its acceptable to effectively take a person hostage simply because they signed a contract. I've said it many times that release clauses should be mandatory, its the only way to make the system humane.

How can you sell if no one is allowed to buy? Presumably to non Premier League clubs? What happens if you need to sell to reduce your squad size but no ones buying? You're left with dead stock and value decreases.

Why didn't they go the whole hog, and stop the big clubs from signing the best players, or reduce how many they can sign!. Just had a manure fan on the park near us, full of himself, reckons Lukaku is nailed on for a hat trick Saturday!

You're left with dead stock and value decreases. Regarding your second point, isn't that the case anyway regardless of when the window shuts?
