Just read harry redknapps autobiography He signed huddo at the end of his career to play for a team in the states He said, he would start partying on Friday night and carry on until Monday just before training! They had some exercises with a stop watch on a Monday so when huddo turned up from a weekends partying, redknapp thought this will be interesting! And it was, he was quickest player there. That Monday and every Monday.
He said, huddo was a player who didn't run around the pitch ' He glided' Which kind of sums him up as a player

After all his health issues of the past 20 years, I'm sure he'd the quickest now. A natural fitness I have never come across since. A legend!

He did glide. Whatever the weather. He was a joy to behold. Never better illustrated than when we played Derby at the Baseball ground in the 74/75 season(?) the pitch was a Quagmire, but as you say Huddy just seemed to glide across the pitch.

Growing up I had a vhs video cassette of highlights of games from that season. I watched highlights of that Derby game time and time again for years. Brilliant quality football on a quagmire pitch. Loved it

It'll be well worth it for the stories and no doubt piss taking over the amount of books he has written.

It'll be well worth it for the stories and no doubt piss taking over the amount of books he has written. Why 'piss-take'? All he's done is try to earn a few bob in an honest way. After all, he and the publishers had no idea whether the book(s) would sell or not. Many folk would not have got over the bad injuries he had (post football) and I wish him well. He's human and has faults but then who are we to 'cast the first stone'.

I'll never forget driving over to my granny's in Stoke when I wa a nipper and the news came on the radio that we'd signed him....my dad went fucking ballistic, pumping the air with his fists etc. A truly beautiful player to watch,Nnonzi is the closest I've seen re "the gliding " but Huddy was far more mercurial.

Only saw him in his second spell. Still a great player to watch then. Formed good partnership with Sammy McIlroy in 84.

As much as sometimes we all know the reason it's being done. Maybe we can be respectful enough to just comment on what a fantastic player he was.

Alan hudson is many things, i have met him briefly quite a few times so i don't claim to know him but i do know that he was the best footballer ever to lace up boots. He glided like a ghost past the opposition and had skill like no other.

My Dad has been watching Stoke from early 60's and says its a toss up between Huddy and Denis Violet who is the best player he has seen play for us. On a personal note,I played against Huddy a few years after his retirement when he played for Richmond Leisure Centre. The bloke ran the game.

If he makes a few quid what's the problem? Players of his generation didn't have the life changing wealth that even mediocre players have today. Saying that, by the sounds of it, he'd probably still have pissed it up the wall.

He was an excellent footballer who also played for Chelsea and Arsenal as well as representing England. He was twice sold for over £200.000 in the 70's which was a huge amount of money back in the day. Don't really understand why you're so bitter about a footballer you know nothing about.
