My thoughts.......loved Whelan and what he did for us for the time he was here but Fletch at present seems better? Moves the ball quicker?
Thoughts?

Thoughts are fans are finally realizing how biased they can be towards players. Whelan...Arnautovic...Walters...Adam. Fletcher is a massive upgrade.

Fletcher after playing 3 games or whelan after 10 years?? No brainer. Whelan was the best 500k ever spent.

Under Hughes and apart from last season Whelan has been the best option we had for the role he played. Fletcher however is so much better, not only as an individual but the impact he has had with the teams structure in defending.

A real bobby Dazzler. Might be my new hero. Doesn't panic, looks to play the positive pass when possible, and not averse to pointing at his temple whilst launching incomprehensible Scottish abuse at teammates in the heat of battle. Love the bloke already!
Edit. Loved Glenn very much as well though

Yes we need to wait longer to assess but questioning re first impressions? Not knocking Whelo at all mate....

Fletcher actually looks quite fresh. I do think we need to manage him carefully though and pick his games so we can get 2 good years from him

Fletcher is similar to Barry and Lampard. Both good pros who have looked after themselves to have a longevity in the game.
Fletcher can be the same we may get more years out of him. Not forgetting he hasn’t played as much football to a long term illness. Even before that he was not always a starter for Utd. Both may help him play longer.
At his age I’d like him to give up Scotland. I also hope he has aspirations of coaching because he seems a good bloke to have at the club

Notice how often Fletcher ran back from midfield to make himself available to either Jack or one of the centre backs ?
He wanted the ball, wanted to get us moving. Constantly shouting orders and generally looked like the captain of the team
I saw him bollock Cameron and Eric.
He's a humongous upgrade on Whelan. For all of his qualities and tenancity, I'd have Fletcher over Whelan 10 years over.
He was super for WBA last season and dominated our midfield at their place. Done very well so far for us

Plus i think he's an intelligent enough player to go on until 36/37 and still do a job ✊

Ned If we're signing Delph I can only assume Allen maybe off to Swansea, but it's a silly risk in my opinion. Injury prone but class on his day, but we don't really need him I don't think! I really like Fletcher and Allen in the middle. We've got Geoff, Adam, then Zouma at a push for cover I guess who could all fill in, Affelay presumably coming back at some point. Imbula (surely he's off?).

Seriously though, Whelan was fantastic for us but in 2017 Fletcher is an upgrade.

I was a bit concerned that Baggies fans said his legs had gone, but I think it's becoming clear that he was being asked to bomb around "getting stuck in" at the Baggies, whereas in our team he'll be allowed a bit of time and space on the ball playing from deep, rather than spending his energy on tearing around trying to win it back. Looks a great fit so far.

Fletcher is composure personified and a joy to watch.
Glenn was brilliant when we needed to go to the trenches but limited us when we had the initiative to press for the win.
I think Fletcher will transform us once we have a settled side...

I felt sorry for Whelan last year - one season too may at this level and people were starting to get on his back rather than appreciate what he's done for us.
Having said Fletcher is clearly an upgrade - he just seems to create space for himself, always looking for a killer ball but if it isn't on prepared to keep it simple, Pulis didn't do him any favours buy over playing him. Hughes needs to manage his game time and if he does we should get two or three good seasons out of Fletcher,

Hard to argue he's not an upgrade.
