Very sad, the master of auto suggestion within his films, making you think you'd seen or would see something happen. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is his signature piece, and rightly described as one of the most influential films In horror. My favourite of his is Salems Lot, I've seen it so many times and it still makes me jump out of my skin. RIP Tobe.

Great film If I remember correctly Tobe, didn't use gore or obvious violence. So to get Salems Lot on telly (equivalent to a cinema 15 certificate), Tobe was drafted in direct SL, precisely because of his reputation of maximum frights and little gore.

The late Gunnar Hansen (who played Leatherface in 'Texas Chain Saw Massacre) wrote a book called 'Texas Chain Saw Confidential' - it's a fascinating insight into how Hooper shot TTCM, low budget film making etc. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chain_Saw_Confidential

You don't even see that much blood in Texas Chainsaw, you just think you have. It's psychologically unsettling rather than a Lucio Fulci-style splatterfest.
Funnily enough I've got Poltergeist Sky Plussed from the other night, far superior to modern day knock-offs such as Insiduous and Paranormal Activity.
It's a sad few weeks for horror fans, we lost George Romero too last month. RIP.
