wasn't this while he owned Vale, he has never made a secret of his love for Coventry Yes, Very possibly, I just put an edit on the original post as posted this.....still its worth a smile of course I could be wrong, but the way it read over on onevalefan was that the sight of there own chairman in opposition colours made them feel sick!

OOOOOOOOOOOOO it just gets better. Before The Smurf actually took over the Vale he appeared on the Vale pitch dressed in Coventrys colours actually supporting Coventry wasn't this while he owned Vale, he has never made a secret of his love for Coventry Yep think he's always supported Coventry but bought Vale as an investment. Obviously not the sharpest business brain. Might as well have put his money into Lehman Brothers

Some of the posts on One Vale Fan are the stuff of nightmares. There's a description of the toilets in the Bycars end that would make John Steinbeck blush, "like peeing in a cave", by one poster who seriously tried to access the toilets in the summer with stainless steel cleaner and a wire brush. These are not our enemies, nor our local rivals of old, nor our neighbours, these are in fact the drunken tramp homeless in your street stinking of his own shite rummaging through your bin - would you begrudge (no pun intended) him finding something?

To think they were once, however briefly above us ! How on earth did that happen ? Did it really happen ? Before money ruled, just a good manager/coach putting a good team together with tactics the players understand and can utilise, it wasn't rocket science back then Sadly Northy Louie had left us by the start of the 98 season.

I would say one of the big problems at Vale is the fans. They've fallen out with every owner of the club during my lifetime from what I can recall. When its not going well they're looking to oust the board, justify not going to hurt the board and will financially hurt their club to try and get their own way.
I haven't heard of any clubs supporters falling out with a fan owned board before, but they've driven another owner to the brink who was actually funding them massively out of his own pocket. But that seems to be the entitlement, that a chairman will come in and just sink all his money into it with no care for the consequences. Just whatever money it takes to make the vale fans happy. Robbie Williams has even come in for some criticism for not being this man, not sacrificing his wealth for the happiness of the vale fans.
In some regards though, now they're a club nearly 30 years down the line of constantly taking exception at the chairman trying to run the club in a sustainable way they think will yield positive results. Who can go in and ever get anything positive out of it? There's no patience, no reasoning. Any sleight will be the signal for a fan uprising against the board.
Smurthwaite seemingly tried his best, he saw the club was unsustainable financially and tried to change the way it was run. It didn't work and even before midway through the season the fans had driven him to the point he didn't want to be there. If the guy who owns the club doesn't want to be there, and doesn't want to foot the bill anymore then of course relegation is almost inevitable.

Didn't a Chesterfield player complain about racial abuse at the shit-hole not long ago?

That's a good point about hostility to a board of supporters (which I believe appointed Bill Bratt as chairman iirc). There was even a veiled threat of violence on a P&G call once, some Vale fan who was literally heavy breathing down the phone to Kevin Kent said "we need a tracksuit manager and tell Bill Bratt as VISA... is watcheen!" Then put the phone down. VISA being a thuggish mob, ancestors to rough element they have today.

I just can't wait to see what they'll build on Vale Park's ground after it's inevitably bulldozed after they plummet into the pub leagues.

Apologies if already posted..
But in terms of league positions through the pyramid The Vale are closer to Leek Town than Stoke City.
Things are looking grim for the once proud Potteries Number One club 🤣
