We were poor before in the various "golden generations", but now we look really poor. Still, apart from Butland playing well and getting a confidence boost I don't really care.

Not sure why we need 4 goalkeepers or what Smalling, Stones, Walker, Defoe or Cahill have done to warrant a call up. Cahill and Walker have already been sent off for silly fouls this season, Defoe looks like he can't buy a goal at the moment. Smalling hasn't played a game yet at all. Joe Hart has played 2 games and conceded 7 goals. New manager, same shite from England.

Smalling PLAYED ZERO MINS THIS SEASON Lingard PLAYED TWO MINS THIS SEASON...
Can't be arsed to look at the others but I am sure there are more.
Until the selection changes these obviously talented players will sit on the benches, not being developed, collecting thousands forever. England, we make our own problems but for me this is one of the biggest with the success, or lack of, of our National Team. It's not long until the talent become stagnant and before you know it a career is never fulfilled...just their pockets.
Who would argue with Southgate if he came out and said "players X Y and Z haven't been picked because they haven't played. The other lads have"

The lack of midfielders is frightening. There's no one really missing either is there?

The first choice XI could be just about okay (thank God for Dele Alli), but the reserves of talent are really drying up, especially in midfield. Oh, for the days of Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, Scholes.......

Tom Davies is unlucky not to get a call up to teh seniors based on the rest of the crap in midfield.
Also, how the hell does that Cresswell keep getting called up? Surely Baines, even at 32, would be a better option than him?
Noticed that Loftus-Cheek is in the under 21s...isn't be about 30 now? He seems to have been around for ever!

Davies is massively unlucky, given what else is out there in midfield.
And must say I didn't realise what a talent Loftus-Cheek was. Good season for Palace, and he could be banging on the door

Eric Dier has been great for England so Im happy with him and Delli Ali
The rest are nothing to write home about. I would have put Rooney in midfield ahead of the others

If Maguire plays it will be hard for Leicester to drop him when Huth returns from injury - which could mean Robert becomes available for transfer. We should be on alert.
Unfortunately I can't see Hughes signing him.

A first eleven of say Butland Walker Cahill Maguire Rose Dier Henderson Alli Vardy and Kane is reasonably strong but nowhere near good enough to challenge the top international teams. I genuinely fear that the national team is now on a par with the likes of Poland, Sweden and Austria. Long gone are the days of Euro 96, Italia 90 and 66. The lack of depth of English talent in the Premier league is woeful
