X
X-X-X X-X-X-X Shaq-? Striker
Just a question of weight of numbers for Sobhi, isn't it?
There's going to be Jese, Bojan, Choupo and him going for that one slot.

It'll be interesting to see if Ramadan gets on the bench tomorrow. Got a feeling he won't.
Bruno and Jese will come into the 18, meaning 2 will have to drop out.
Grant, Johnson, Tymon, Adam, Sobhi, Choupo, Crouch
Of those 7, Sobhi looks pretty vulnerable.

Or would we be happy having Crouch remain and no striker come in? Looking at the above though is the exact situation I was referring to in the original post. Understand it's a squad game but on paper Ramadan, Ngoy & Verlinden IMO are further away from the first team then they were last season.

If the striker signs (and assuming that Berahino had still done nothing of note) it'd be genuinely interesting to see if Hughes went with Crouch or Berahino as his bench striker option (particularly with Diouf already in the 18 and Cameron potentially available to replace him at wing-back) I wouldn't put that much money on it being Berahino (although if he found himself outside of the 18, it'd probably shatter what little remaining confidence he had). If Crouch is pushed down the pecking order, can see him going - maybe to the Championship. On Ramadan, it is shaping up for him to be right on the fringes, barring injuries. Not sure what the answer is, but a loan would have to be preferable for him, rather than wasting a really important season in his development.

Hughes may decide that Cameron can cover CB, RB/RWB and DCM, in which case he could drop Johnson and Adam from the bench. Like you though, I think it's more likely that Adam will stay and Ramadan will go, given that two of Choupo, Bojan and Jese will already be on the bench.

I wanted N'Goy to succeed, right up until our supporters started singing that terrible, terrible song.

Think you might be hitting the "ABORT!" button a tad early on this one. Let's see how they play when they get their chance against Rochdale. We can't just expect to throw them all straight in to the first Premier League game when we have a full squad available of experienced professionals. The squad has been trimmed and they will get their chance, just be patient. Agreed. I'm not sure how anyone can predict how young players will be used when we haven't even played a home game yet. N'Goy is out for up to 2 months but I would expect Verlinden and Ramadan to be bench players in league games for a while but to start League Cup and the U23 games against the lower league teams - can't remember what it is called. Hopefully they will impress enough in those games to get more and more time in league games. To be fair to Hughes, his biggest problem at the start of this season (where there has been a big "churn" of the senior squad) is to work out which of his senior players are the best starting eleven - and we can assume there may be one or two more arriving before the window closes. Once he has an idea who is in his best 11, he can start to think about introducing the other players (old and young) as the season progresses. Obviously it will help if we can start scoring regularly and get a few decent leads to make bringing on subs less fraught.
