I have owned a firestick for some time but have only just decided to have a go at Amazon Prime on a free 30 day trial.
As well as various other things I started to watch the series Outlander. Apologies if this is old hat but;
I am totally hooked on this amazing series. Exciting, well acted, exceptionally well filmed and so informative.
Watching the first 10 episodes (so far) and also using Google to look up the real life characters I have learnt more history this week than the several years that I wasted at gramar school.
I also feel that I have a far better understanding of the history of the Scotish antagonisms towards the English, the Jacobite rebellion its causes and aftermath.
Sorry to have gone on, but if anybody is in search of some quality TV viewing I strongly recommend this excellent series.
PS The Jacobite rebellion was in the late 18th Centuary. Do not be put off when the series starts in 1945 !!! ??

I love Outlander. We got a firestick earlier this year and Outlander has undoubtedly been the highlight of what we have watched on it so far.
You get much more involved with the charactors than in Game of Thrones (which we also rate) although the story is not quite as complex. There's a bit of violence and cruelty leading up to
possible SPOILER ALERT - a very disturbing episode in episode 15. END of SPOILER.
Plus, theres some pretty sexy stuff going on in some of the episodes. It's not a programme to watch with your granny, that's for sure!
Add together some delightful Scottish scenery, some fairly accurate Scottish history, and some very engaging characters, and you have a superb set of programmes.
Can't wait for the third series to begin in a few weeks time.
I've wondered if it would have affected the result of the Scottish referendum had it been on TV at the time. I suspect it would.
The series is being shown on More4 in the UK at the moment.

However an excellent series which I have no hesitation in recommending.

Thanks for the heads up. I mainly watch Amazon Prime and Netflix, hardly ever watch mainstream TV these days. I was totally hooked on Homeland and have just watched the first three episodes of Turn (which is okayish, but the jury's still out whether I'll see many more).
Not wishing to be pedantic, but wasn't the Jacobite Rebellion actually more like early 18th Century? Culloden was in 1745, and that more or less was the end of the matter.

When I started this thread I (wrongly) assumed that series 1 would lead up to Culloden. Having just watched the final episode of the first series there are a few years to go. Hoping we may yet get to meet the "Bony Prince"

Not very good on history dates, but will Mel Gibson be turning up anytime soon?

Not very good on history dates, but will Mel Gibson be turning up anytime soon? Bound to be - the English are the bad guys, so he'd love it.

The first few episodes of the second series are set in France and some of it was a bit slow moving for me. (although there are 'events' which are worth watching so stick with it.) Eventually the action switches back to Scotland and you get back up to speed. (No Mel Gibson though)

Watched the first episode last night.......jeez it's bloody slow
I'll give the second episode a go and see from there. Although I don't hold out much hope as Scottish accents really annoy the shit out of me
Lorraine Kelly is not allowed onto my tv 😬

Halfway through season 2 It's starting to piss me off since the move to France Gone very very slow Plus, they want to affect history to stop the uprising but, don't want to affect time to change the Randal lineage
