One thing that worries me is that this season there doesn't seem to be a non-new side that is so poor that they make the rest of the league breathe a sigh of relief. The type of team that will struggle to get 20 points.
Two seasons ago it was Aston Villa. Last season it was Sunderland.
Let's assume that one of the relegation spots will be taken by a promoted team. It could be 2 promoted teams if you're optimistic.
Who will the other (non-new) relegated teams be? There's a good chance 2 non-new teams will be relegated. Burnley, Swansea, Watford, and yes Stoke seem the most vulnerable as of this point in the transfer window.
Ahead of the season you'd think it would be Burnley. But can you honestly say that the manager plus squad combination is weaker at Burnley? Their squad may be weaker, but Dyche knows how to grind out points at home, and they never capitulated to the big teams either home nor away. This was their record against the top 6. They lost almost all of the games but were never thrashed, suggesting that the players and manager don't give up so easily when they experience a setback.
Chelsea (1-1 (h); 0-3 (a) Spurs....(0-2 (h); 1-2 (a) Man City(1-2 (h); 1-2 (a) Liv'pool..(2-0 (h); 1-2 (a) Arsenal..(0-1 (h); 1-2 (a) Man Utd.(0-2 (h); 0-0 (a)
Even if we suppose that Burnley are relegated and 1 of the promoted teams goes straight back down, that still leaves a spot for a non-new team to be relegated. Who would the other non-new team be? I think Stoke are in that dangerous group with very fine margins.
One of those fine margins could be the crowd. It definitely helped the team survive the first few seasons. The crowd need to get behind the players.

Don't expect any sort of "12th man" support.

Wayne, it's not free advertising. They pay for shirt sponsorship and for the naming rights of the stadium. The biggest sponsorship deal the club has ever had, how can that be free? Booooooom. This sort of comment is exactly what the thread is about. Un founded and inaccurate negativity. Yeah ok Menorca, anything that doesnt agree with your views is negativity. Its a forum for honest views, You have yours and just because mine dont agree with them does not make me negative Boooooooom ????? Mate, not only is it negative, it's also completely fucking false. Go look up the word "sponsorship" before bedtime and try to work on fixing your complete ignorance of basic facts.

Well stateside, you put it slightly differently than I did but same message. Wayne sadly is proving my point of the thread and there are too many Wayne's about these day dragging what should be an exciting time of the season.

Ok free was an incorrect choice of words but a) the advertising via the sponsorship is cheap as it is offset against tax and b) ignorance is being unable to construct a debate without resorting to foul language and being abusive to others, others that the only thing known about that person is they share a love for SCFC, even if their personal expression of love is not in line with every one elses opinion. In my opinion that is a greater problem than negativity on the oatcake at present, no need for it.

Wayne, I reacted to what you wrote, your comment was incorrect and negative.
I feel now you are digging yourself an even bigger hole talking about offsetting sponsorship money against tax. Probably best you move on from this one fella.
I don't think I was abusive to you in any way shape or form ? If others were then that's a matter for you to take it up with them.

You we're asleep during last season then? I've seen very little during preseason to suggest anything has changed. I would bet my fucking mortgage that we look just as poor in 6 weeks time. And in those six weeks we play Arsenal, Man Utd, and Chelsea at Home and Everton away so any sensible Stoke fan will realise that we perhaps won't realistically pick up many points in those 6 weeks. That's not what I said.

Where have i accused you of being abusive ? Correct you wernt and i havent so why bring that up ? I am not digging a bigger hole for myself i am just discussing an item on a public forum,If you cannot handle that then it is you who needs to move on. Any way we will not agree so lets move on. Feel free to have the last word if you like and it makes you feel better.

I don't see an agenda
I think there was a lot of criticism of sparky for endlessly reshuffling his team to try and shoehorn 18 million quid signing imbula into it. Especially when it was getting silly and he just didn't seem to fit with anyone. It just took sparky a very long time to swallow his pride with that one
Now some ( well me anyway!) think he's trying to do the same thing with 12 million quid signing berahino.
I would never boo the team at a match
But I can understand people on here saying they are frustrated with Hughes stubborness over berahino.
Sometimes if you have taken a wrong turn, it's better to just go back to where you went wrong.
And take another road

All my Vinyl has been transferred to `digital` Ely and stored now in air tight containers as the damp was affecting the covers and the vinyl I was very lucky in the 70s Ely as i had an Auntie and Uncle who ran a pub in Telford and they gave me all the old 45`s off the jukebox, didnt realise at the time how lucky I was !
