Very bland start to the season again. The ageing warriors have gone our ageing leading scorer is understandably pursuing a new media career whilst the bloke we pin our hopes on to replace him cant buy a decent performance let alone a goal.
Our record signing is interesting Monaco but we cant get a tune out of him weve got a CH who hasnt signed And a captain woefully out of form.
Weve lost one of our talented players to a more ambitious mid table outfit and propose to fill the gap with a talented but raw youngster and as it stands if we get any injuries we are fucked.
Another poor domestic friendly result and prrformance
Great stuff. Interesting month ahead

Without being totally a knickerwetter Mark Hughes better have a plan as most of our problems are self made..
Berahino just aint going to score with this set up. We were warned by all at West Brom that Berahino cant play as a lone striker. We need to change the formation or drop him.
Shaq just has to play at number 10 to help supply balls. Then a new right winger required.
Because a midfield of Cameron ,Fletcher and Allan will provide no type of service.
Johnson has had a dramatic drop and needs replacing with a pacey full back immediately.
Ryans stiff looking style of play is worrying.
Allan aint a number 10 and Bojan is spent.Surely shaq
The 4-2-3-1 doesn't suit our players defensively or offensively.
3-5-2 suits the bulk of the squad but we don't have wingbacks.
All a bit puzzling presently.

Never a truer and more appropriate phrase needed at the moment than our club motto........
Just hope the players don't read the crap that some post on this forum. Lets be together, both on and off the pitch!

According to the BBC Text this morning, Stoke are going to be busy during the next 2 1/2 weeks in the transfer window. Lets fecking hope so, because this current squad isn't fit for purpose.

Getting rid of the old war horses for modest fees was the easy bit . The main worry for me is his failure to put together an effective defence, midfield or forward line

Too little too late often often used as a descriptor of the French monarchy reforms before the revolution will now become Hughes epitaph at stoke city .
The form of the last 6 months , The blind and stupid pursuit of berahino , the unbelievable sale of 4 players of strong physical presence and character as well as goals and assists , without replacements the complete incompetence of our off field set up mean theirs is no chance now this window can be turned around and therefore our season .
The scatter gun approach to targets indicates no plan and the failure to get deals done indicates a level of incompetence and parsimony totally at odds with our competition set .
Right now barring a miracle he and we are set tor a truly horrendous season the only difference being ours will go on until may and his will end in October / November . Sadly the real culprits will not be addressed as the manger who has made mistakes but they allDo takes rhe fall for a commercial function beyond redemption in every aspect of our off field performance

Last season stoke fans wanted to clear out the 'old guard' so when times got tough Hughes has no opportunity to rely on them and has to perfect plan A.
Walters, Whelan, Bards, Given. Half the plan is complete, with the exception of Johnson getting a new contract i think fans should be happy with the summer clear out and the fees received. With over a month to go before the transfer window shuts it would be fairly stupid to throw your toys out of the pram just yet. If you want to sign good players, sometimes you have to wait until nearer deadline day, its not like buying a pint of milk.

As for waiting nearer to the deadline to buy i disagree players need to be intergrated within the squad before the season starts or you can end up playing catch up.

Why am I not surprised by this latest thread? God knows what it will be like after 6 games when we will be in the bottom half given our run of fixtures. I am going to stay positive we have a decent spine butland- zouma-fletcher-berahinio plus the talents of shaq-sobhi Plus the fact we are still looking to bring players in.so go ahead doom merchants place all of your cash on us to go down.I in the meantime will look forward to being at the bet365 to cheer my team on.somat some of you lot have never done.

The good news is we are having a more sensible pre-season than last year and Fletcher despite not being in the first fling of youth will be a decent acquisition and hopefully the talented Zouma is not as raw as reports might suggest as we provide him with his own personal 'finishing school' before returning him to his owners.
Conversely we have lost our most potent attacking force (Arnie), our best defender (Bruno) for the moment at least and most seriously given the lack of transfers-in 3 of our real stalwarts (Walters, Whelan and Bardsley) who know this league like the back of their hand and what it takes to dig out results in the all important home games against the less strong teams which invariably define our season.
Further concerns are the form of Ryan in pre-season, I don't know what this 'minor injury' Butland has is but it scares the shit out of me and there is little suggestion that Berahino is set to add to his tally of zero goals from the 2nd half of last season.
As things stand quite honestly I'd start with Crouch up front at Goodison Park, it would at least give the home side something to think about and he remains the only 'striker' on our books who appears to know where the back of the net is.
There seems to be a growing perception on here that we address the situation by throwing youth in to the fray in the form of Ngoy, Tyman, Verlinden etc. I'm not convinced, it might be fun to watch but it would see us back in the Championship in the blink of an eye.
Lots to do and lots to think about in the next 16 days...

A season that seems to be entirely based on hope ( that the youngsters will make massive strides forward, a couple of great signings from nowhere etc) and very little realistic expectation.

Last night debacle shows why, one can't jump, one turns his back like a girl (don't care if its sexist talks like a real hard man then plays junior school football) and the other gives the ball away as if he's on their side.
I wouldn't take any of them if I was Burnley they have already had the pick players.

We have got to bring in players or with this squad we are playing championship football next season no question about it, We need someone to replace Pieters, Shawcross, and Johnson, for a start.
Then back up for Sobi.
Delph would be nice.
Then we need to think about if things don't work out with Beraino.
I don't think for one second half of these issues will be sorted at all, but here's hoping.

Arnie perhaps when he got up a head of steam I'm sure Imbula was brought in to add strength and presence to midfield but other than him he seems to just like smaller slower skilful players and they just get out run and overpowered

This is definitely looking like a do or die season as far as Hughes is concerned.
Selling a lot of the "safety blanket" players certainly means we're in for a roller coaster ride - I for one am excited!
On a side note, isn't football odd? I was born in Stoke and lived there for three months before moving away. I'm a fan of a team I have rarely seen live that plays in a place I rarely visit, consisting of a bunch of players I have never met, who in the main have no other connection at all to Stoke, let alone England. But it really matters to me how Stoke do. A lot. It just does. Odd it might be, but it is also brilliant!
