The best time lady was Matt Tamm as Romama 1. She certainly got my sonic screwdriver going.

The clue is in the name fella. Time LORD. Not Time LADY. The clue is not in the name at all. Time Lords are a race/species, not an indication of gender. The Rani from the original series is female, she's a Time Lord. The Master is currently female, she's a Time Lord. Why do they feel the need to change the gender? Influenced by feminism. It's ridiculous.

Timelords have different views on gender than humans have, it's been mentioned in the show a number of times that they can change form from male to female and vice versa through regeneration. Doctor Who has always represented change and it's a science fiction show, does it really matter?

Exactly, just like the last assistant just happened to be a gay black woman with learning difficulties. Ticked more than a few boxes did that one.

Personally I don't give a toss about it. More important things to think about. Namely Stoke City.

So the Master is now that woman who killed that bloke from Life on Mars in the lift. Bill, who's a black girl, has run off around the Galaxy with her puddle girlfriend, not puddled, but that soaking wet chick that keeps popping up in puddles. Capaldi will have his sex reassignment finale on Christmas Day just after the brandy butter. And that Noodle bloke is as camp as owt. Yep, I think the BBC has got it's finger on the Nation's pulse. Absolutely.

A supernatural being with two hearts flying through time and space in a phone box. It's just unrealistic to have a woman doing it.

There's an awful lot of sexist comments about the idea of a female Doctor Who.
As a progressive, I'll enthusiastically welcome this move, as long as she gets her kit off in every episode.

It's not about being progressive, it's about everybody waving the sexist card just because doctor who is a man. It's a tv programme for fucks sake and it has been forced to change. If you want to know what doctor who would be like as a female then you should have watched sarah jane and K9 on cbbc. When will the male bashing end? It's like we are being targeted.

I find it quite funny that people seem so set against a fictional time travelling alien from a science fiction show taking the form of a woman, when it's been explained in the show many times that is what Time Lords can do. Jodie Whittaker is an interesting choice who has worked closely with Chris Chibnall and I am looking forward to seeing what they can bring to the role and the direction the show will now go in. Don't think you can come round here talking sense

Did you just assume the doctor's gender?
Maybe its a male doctor who was regenerated as biologically female but identifies as male.

Much appreciated Richie! You may have heard about my hatred, whoops, dislike, should I say, of Manure Utd, which will grow even more this season coming. I am a cross between Victor Meldrew and some sort of middle of the road sort of guy. When I'm in my Victor Meldrew mood, I become almost impossible to live with, which is becoming more prevalent as I get nearer my seventies!

I have never heard so much about Doctor Who in such a short time. The programme will gain viewers and if she is any good, they will stay and watch. They've already lost nearly a million viewers. And with the reaction from young men, which is a large portion of their target audience, being upset about the new doctor being a female, I wouldn't count on it.
